Hi-Ex (short for the Highlands International Comics Expo) was the name given to a Scottish comics convention held from 2008–2012. It was held early in the year in Eden Court Theatre, Inverness. Inverness
Inverness (; from the gd, Inbhir Nis , meaning "Mouth of the River Ness"; sco, Innerness) is a city in the Scottish Highlands. It is the administrative centre for The Highland Council and is regarded as the capital of the Highlands. Historically it served as the county town of the county of Inverness-shire. Inverness lies near two important battle sites: the 11th-century battle of Blàr nam Fèinne against Norway which took place on the Aird, and the 18th century Battle of Culloden which took place on Culloden Moor. It is the northernmost city in the United Kingdom and lies within the Great Glen (Gleann Mòr) at its northeastern extremity where the River Ness enters the Beauly Firth. FutureQuake
FutureQuake was a British small press comic book founded by Arthur Wyatt, and later edited by Richmond Clements, David Evans and Owen Watts. Dedicated to showcasing work by new writers and artists, they published mostly self-contained comic stories, generally of 5 pages or less and usually of a sci-fi/fantasy/horror bent. Under their FutureQuake Press imprint (FQP) they also published the Japanese Manga-influenced anthology ''MangaQuake'' and the horror comic ''Something Wicked''. FQP also published other comics, and took over ''Dogbreath'', the ''Strontium Dog'' fanzine and ''Zarjaz'', the general '' 2000 AD'' fanzine. 39 issues of ''FutureQuake'' were published until publication went on hiatus following the death of David Evans in May 2021. John Higgins (comics)
John Higgins (born 1949) is an English comic book artist and writer. He did significant work for '' 2000 AD'', and he has frequently worked with writer Alan Moore, most notably as colourist for ''Watchmen''. Biography John Higgins was born in Walton, Liverpool. After leaving school when he was 15, he joined the army and, on leaving, spent some time in a commune in Wiltshire. He returned to Liverpool and, in 1971, resumed his studies at Wallasey College of Art. There, in 1974 he qualified in technical illustration, which allowed him to get a job as a medical illustrator at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. After getting his first comic book art published in ''Brainstorm'' in 1975, he drew the cover for '' 2000 AD'' No. 43 in 1977 and decided to go freelance in 1978, with an eye on becoming a comic artist. Rufus Dayglo
Rufus Dayglo is a British comics artist working in comics, illustration, and storyboards. He is working for '' 2000 AD'' and Titan Books in the United Kingdom, and DC Vertigo, IDW Publishing and Image Comics in the United States. His ''Tank Girl'' work has also been published by Ankama Editions in France in 2011. Biography Dayglo started his career in the animation industry working on feature films, pop promos, storyboarding and commercials before moving into comic book art. Al Ewing
Al Ewing () is a British comics writer who has mainly worked in the small press and for '' 2000 AD'' and Marvel Comics. Career Al Ewing began his career writing stories in the four-page ''Future Shocks'' format for '' 2000 AD'' and moved on to regular stints on ''Judge Dredd'' (2008–2015), for which his 2010 story "Doctor What?" marked Brendan McCarthy's return to ''2000 AD''. They later worked together on a new series entitled ''The Zaucer of Zilk''. Ewing worked on ''Damnation Station'' and '' Zombo'', the latter illustrated by Henry Flint, which was collected in trade paperback in 2010. Declan Shalvey
Declan Shalvey is an Irish comics artist and writer. He has worked for Marvel Comics, drawing titles like ''Moon Knight'', '' Thunderbolts'' and ''Deadpool''. For Image Comics, he has collaborated with writer Warren Ellis on science fiction series ''Injection'', and written crime comics set in Ireland, including ''Savage Town'', with artist Philip Barrett, and ''Bog Bodies'', with artist Gavin Fullerton. Shalvey was born on 11 January 1982 in Dublin, and grew up in Ennis, County Clare, where he was educated at Rice College and St. Flannan's College secondary schools. Eden Court Theatre
Eden Court Theatre (Scottish Gaelic: Cùirt an Easbaig) is a large theatre, cinema and arts venue situated in Inverness, Scotland close to the banks of the River Ness. The theatre has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and major extension, adding a second theatre, two dedicated cinema screens, two performance/dance studios, improved dressing room and green room facilities and additional office space. The theatre's restaurant and bar facilities have also been totally overhauled and improved. History Plans for a theatre, restaurant and dance-hall were put first forward in November 1967, then lengthy negotiations followed. The Eden Court Theatre was formally opened on 15 April 1976 by Andrew Cruickshank MBE, an actor best known for his portrayal of Dr Cameron in BBC's long-running series "Dr Finlay's Casebook". The Predator, also known as Yautja (pronounced ), is the titular extraterrestrial species featured in the ''Predator'' science fiction franchise, characterized by its trophy hunting of other species for sport.
