Heybeliada
Heybeliada, or Heybeli Ada, is the second largest of the Prince' Islands in the Sea of Marmara, near Istanbull, Turkey. It is officially a neighbourhood of the Adalar district of Istanbul. Its name, meaning 'with a saddlebag' in Turkish, in supposed reference to the valley between two hills. The island was known as ''Halki'', ''Halkitis'' ( el, Χαλκίτις) and ''Demonesos'' ( Greek: Δημόνησος) in antiquity, the first two toponyms deriving from the Greek word ''halkos'' ( el, χαλκός), meaning copper. The island was famous for its copper and copper ores in antiquity. In winter the island's population is only about 5,500, but in summer, the owners of summer houses return and the population swells to approximately 30,000. Launched in 2008, TCG ''Heybeliada'', used by the Turkish Navy is named after the island. TCG Heybeliada
TCG ''Heybeliada'' (F-511) is the lead ship of the ASW corvettes of the Turkish Navy. ''Heybeliada'' was named after Heybeliada Island, where the Turkish Naval High School is located. Heybeliada Island is part of the Prince Islands archipelago in the Sea of Marmara, to the southeast of Istanbul. Designed, developed and built by the Tuzla (Istanbul) Naval Shipyard as a part of the MILGEM project, it was laid down on 22 January 2007, launched on 27 September 2008, and commissioned on 27 September 2011. History Istanbul Naval Shipyard Command started construction of ''Heybeliada'' on 22 January 2007. Sailed out for initial sea trials in 2008, she was officially commissioned by the Turkish Navy and entered navy service on 27 September 2011. Naval High School (Turkey)
Naval High School ( tr, Deniz Lisesi); known in the Ottoman period as the ''Imperial School of Naval Engineering'' (''Mühendishane-i Bahr-i Hümâyûn'') and later as the ''Imperial Naval School'' (''Mekteb-i Bahriye-i Şahane''); is a Turkish naval high school located on Heybeliada Island (the second largest of the Prince Islands) in the Sea of Marmara, to the southeast of Istanbul, Turkey. Deniz Lisesi trained naval cadets for the Turkish Naval Academy. Established in 1773, it is one of the oldest Turkish high schools. Being a military school in nature, access open only to students who are Turkish citizens with a special admission exam and a physical test. After the 2016 Turkish coup d'état attempt, the Naval High School, along with the other military high schools in Turkey, was closed. Turkish Naval Forces
The Turkish Naval Forces ( tr, ), or Turkish Navy ( tr, ) is the naval warfare service branch of the Turkish Armed Forces. The modern naval traditions and customs of the Turkish Navy can be traced back to 10 July 1920, when it was established as the ''Directorate of Naval Affairs'' during the Turkish War of Independence led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Since July 1949, the service has been officially known as the ''Turkish Naval Forces''.
