Hey Reb!
Hey Reb! was a mascot for the UNLV Rebels, the athletic teams of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Paradise, Nevada, USA. He performed live at all UNLV athletic events. The mascot, Hey Reb!, was first created in 1983 to depict the embodiment of an independent, rebel spirit at UNLV athletic events, intended as a tribute to western settlers. In the aftermath of the George Floyd protests, the statue of the mascot was removed due to concerns of racist symbolism, and the mascot itself was permanently retired for similar reasons, with no replacement mascot announced. Previous mascots UNLV's original mascot was a Confederate uniform-wearing wolf named Beauregard. Dressed in a grey uniform, Beauregard was a variation on the Confederate symbolic image of "Johnny Reb". UNLV Rebels
The UNLV Rebels are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The Rebels compete in the NCAA Division I (Football Bowl Subdivision for college football) as a member of the Mountain West Conference. The school's colors are scarlet and gray. It was founded in 1958 for basketball in Paradise, Nevada. It did not have a nickname for Nevada Southern at the time from 1958 to 1968. Some of the Rebels teams use variations of the team name for their individual sport, such as the Runnin' Rebels for men's basketball and the Hustlin' Rebels for the baseball team. The 1990 Runnin' Rebels basketball team defeated Duke University 103–73, to win the NCAA National Championship, UNLV's first Division I National Championship in one of the three major sports. KXNT (AM)
KXNT (840 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to North Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. It is owned and operated by Audacy, Inc. and carries a talk radio format. The radio studios are located in the unincorporated Clark County area of Spring Valley, while KXNT's transmitter is located on U.S. Route 93 at Great Valley Parkway in North Las Vegas. KXNT is a Class B station operating on a clear channel frequency. WHAS in Louisville, Kentucky is the dominant Class A station on 840 AM, so KXNT must reduce its power at night to avoid interfering with WHAS's signal. KXNT operates at 50,000 watts by day and 25,000 watts at night. KXNT has been granted an FCC construction permit to move to the KXST transmitter site and decrease night power to 10,000 watts.
