Heta Hingston
Heta Kenneth Hingston (8 August 1938 – 9 August 2020) was a New Zealand lawyer and jurist. He served as a judge of the Māori Land Court from 1984 to 1999, as Chief Justice of the High Court of Niue from 1978 until 2010, and as a judge of the High Court of the Cook Islands and the Cook Islands Court of Appeal between 2000 and 2013. Early life Hingston was born in Rotorua and educated at Horohoro Native School, Whangamarino Primary, Rotorua Boys' High School and St Stephen's College. At the age of 18 he was conscripted into the New Zealand Army, and served in Malaya as part of the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment from 1957 to 1959 and again from 1961 to 1963. Hingston later attended Victoria University of Wellington, and graduated with an LLB in 1969. While studying he worked as a legal assistant for the New Zealand Railways Department and Ministry of Works, and then later for the Ministry of Defence. Court System Of Niue
The court system of Niue is a three-tiered judicial system established by the Niue Constitution Act in the island nation of Niue. It consists of the High Court, which has original jurisdiction to hear all criminal, civil and land matters, the Court of Appeal, which has appellate civil and criminal jurisdiction, and the Privy Council in England. Justices interpret the law subject to the Constitution of Niue, and if they determine a law violates the Constitution then the Constitution takes precedence. A system of common law is used in the court system, and the Doctrine of Precedent ensures that lower courts follow the precedent of upper courts. The civil and criminal courts operate under an adversarial legal system, while the land courts operate under an inquisitive legal system. Ngāti Tūwharetoa
Ngāti Tūwharetoa is an iwi descended from Ngātoro-i-rangi, the priest who navigated the Arawa canoe to New Zealand. The Tūwharetoa region extends from Te Awa o te Atua (Tarawera River) at Matatā across the central plateau of the North Island to the lands around Mount Tongariro and Lake Taupō. Tūwharetoa is the sixth largest iwi in New Zealand, with a population of 35,877 of the 2013 New Zealand census, and 40% of its people under the age of 15. The tribe consists of a number of ''hapu'' (subtribes) represented by 33 ''marae'' (meeting places). The collective is bound together by the legacy of Ngātoro-i-rangi as epitomised in the ariki (paramount chief), currently Sir Tumu te Heuheu Tūkino VIII. The Queen's Service Order, established by royal warrant of Queen Elizabeth II on 13 March 1975, is used to recognise "valuable voluntary service to the community or meritorious and faithful services to the Crown or similar services within the public sector, whether in elected or appointed office". Robert Woonton
Robert Woonton (born 1949) is a Cook Islands politician and diplomat. He served as Prime Minister of the Cook Islands from 11 February 2002 until 11 December 2004, and later as High Commissioner to New Zealand. He was a member of the centrist Democratic Party. Woonton trained as a medical doctor. He was first elected to the Cook Islands Parliament at the 1994 election. He was re-elected at the 1999 election. Following the premiership of Joe Williams, he was appointed to the Cabinet of Terepai Maoate as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Transport.
