Heshel Frumkin
Heshel Frumkin (; 1896 –11 April 1974) was an Israeli economist and politician. Biography Born in Babruysk in the Russian Empire (today in Belarus), Frumkin was educated in a heder and yeshiva, and was a member of Tzeiri Zion and HeHalutz during his youth. In 1920 he made aliyah to Mandatory Palestine, where he was amongst the founders of the Histadrut trade union. He became a member of kibbutz Degania Bet, and worked in road construction. He helped establish the Office of Public Works, which later became Solel Boneh, and was one of its managers. In 1933 he became a member of the Histadrut's executive committee, and was responsible for its economics department. He also served as an economic advisor to the Histadrut leadership. Babruysk
Babruysk, Babrujsk or Bobruisk ( be, Бабруйск , Łacinka: , rus, Бобруйск, Bobrujsk, bɐˈbruɪ̯s̪k, yi, באָברויסק ) is a city in the Mogilev Region of eastern Belarus on the Berezina River. , its population was 209,675. The name Babrujsk (as well as that of the Babruyka River) probably originates from the Belarusian word (; 'beaver'), many of which used to inhabit the Berezina. However, beavers in the area had been almost eliminated by the end of the 19th century due to hunting and pollution. Babrujsk occupies an area of , and comprises over 450 streets whose combined length stretches for over . Babrujsk is located at the intersection of railroads to Asipovichy, Zhlobin, Aktsyabrski and roads to Minsk, Homyel, Mahilyow, Kalinkavichy, Slutsk, and Rahachow. Jenia Tversky
Jenia Tversky (, 16 August 1904 – 9 April 1964) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Mapai. Biography Born Genia Gintsburg (russian: Геня Гинцбург) in 1904 in Baranovichi in the Russian Empire (now in Belarus), Tversky studied at the University of Warsaw and at a Social Work school in Berlin. In 1923, she made aliyah to Mandatory Palestine, where she became a pioneer of social services. Between 1932 and 1942 she served as director of the Jewish community's social services in Haifa, before working as head of the Social Services Department of the Neighbourhood Committee of Jerusalem between 1942 and 1948. She was also a member of the Executive Committee of the Histadrut trade union, and was sent to the Holocaust survivors' camps as an emissary in 1945. The history of the Jews in Belarus begins as early as the 8th century. Jews lived in all parts of the lands of modern Belarus. Jews were the third largest ethnic group in the country in the first half of the 20th century. In 1897, the Jewish population of Belarus reached 910,900, or 14.2% of the total population. Following the Polish-Soviet War (1919-1920), under the terms of the Treaty of Riga, Belarus was split into Eastern Belorussia (under Soviet occupation) and Western Belorussia (under Polish occupation), and causing 350,000-450,000 of the Jews to be governed by Poland.
