Hermosa Beach City School District
The Hermosa Beach School District is responsible for public education in the city of Hermosa Beach, California. It oversees two elementary schools and one middle school. The school district is supported by the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation, a volunteer-run program which raises financial support for continued educational development of the students and teachers of the School District. Residents of the district were also in South Bay Union High School District until 1993, when it dissolved. Since 1993 residents may choose between Redondo Union High School or Mira Costa High School after graduating from Hermosa Beach CSD. Awards and recognition In 2005, Hermosa Valley and Hermosa View schools received the U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School award for academic achievement along with approximately 300 schools in the United States, 33 of which were in California. Hermosa Beach (''Hermosa'', Spanish for "Beautiful") is a beachfront city in Los Angeles County in the U.S. state of California, United States. Its population was 19,728 at the 2020 U.S. Census. Mira Costa High School (MCHS, "Costa") is a four-year public high school located in Manhattan Beach, California that first began operating in 1950. It is the only high school in the Manhattan Beach Unified School District. The school's athletic teams are known as the Mustangs and the school colors are green and gold. The Academic Performance Index (API) was a measurement of academic performance and progress of individual schools in California, United States. The API was one of the main components of the Public Schools Accountability Act passed by the California State Legislature in 1999.
