Hermann Oestrich
Hermann Oestrich (30 December 1903 – 2 April 1973) was a German-French engineer. He was involved in the development of jet engines as an employee of BMW and later of Snecma. Life Born in Duisburg-Beeckerwerth, Oestrich studied at the Technische Hochschule Hannover and in Berlin. After completing his studies, he first went to the Deutsche Versuchsanstalt für Luftfahrt in 1926, where he remained until he moved to Brandenburgische Motorenwerke in 1935. He became chief engineer of BMW after earning a doctorate at the TH Berlin-Charlottenburg in Berlin in 1937. As part of the new development of jet engines, Oestrich began research in this field. In 1939 he was appointed head of the development of jet engines in the BMW plant in Berlin-Spandau. His developments eventually led to the BMW 003 engine, which was bought in 1946 by the French Air Ministry. Melun Villaroche Aerodrome (french: Aérodrome de Melun Villaroche) is an aerodrome located north of Melun, a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region in north-central France. The airport is located east-southeast of Moissy-Cramayel and southeast of Paris. Facilities The airport resides at an elevation of above mean sea level. It has two paved runways: 10/28 measuring and 01/19 measuring . It supports general aviation with no commercial airline service scheduled. The airport is equipped for VFR (visual) or IFR (instrument). The SNECMA ATAR 101 is a French axial-flow turbojet engine built by SNECMA. It was derived from engines and design work carried out at BMW in Germany during World War II, and extensively developed though a progression of more powerful models. The name is derived from its original design group, ''Atelier Technique Aéronautique de Rickenbach'' employing Hermann Östrich and many of the wartime BMW gas turbine design group as well as other German engine design teams. Decize
Decize is a commune in the Nièvre department in central France. Geography The town is situated on a former island in the Loire ("en Loire assise") at the confluence of the Aron river. The right channel of the Loire was dammed up to reclaim land and now remains as an arm ("la Vieille Loire") stretching upstream to the centre of town. The Loire at this point is an important navigation point as it forms the junction between the Canal du Nivernais and the Canal latéral à la Loire both of which are within the town boundaries. History Decize is an ancient settlement first noted in the Commentarii de Bello Gallico where Julius Caesar settled a dispute involving the Decetiae from whom comes the town's name—in Roman times the town’s name was Decetia in Gallia Lugdunensis. Hans-Georg Münzberg
Hans-Georg Münzberg (21 August 1916 – 7 November 2000) was a German engineer who specialized in airplane turbines and space flight. He taught at the TU Berlin, the TH Munich, and wrote textbooks. Life Münzberg was born in Tetschen (now Děčín), the son of the industrialist Rudolf Münzberg. He studied mechanical engineering at the in Prague from 1934, graduating with the diploma in 1939. He then worked for the BMW-Flugmotorenwerke in Berlin-Spandau, focused on air foil turbines (''Fluggasturbinen''). He earned his Ph.D. in June 1942 with a dissertation on "Das Gasturbinentriebwerk als Antriebsaggregat für Hochgeschwindigkeitsflugzeuge" (The gas turbine engine as a power unit for high-speed aircraft). After World War II, he worked in a French group of scientists including Hermann Oestrich at the "Atelier Aéronautique in Rickenbach" near Lindau which developed the Snecma Atar system of propulsion, which was moved to France.
