Heresies Collective
The Heresies Collective was founded in 1976 in New York City, by a group of feminist political artists. The group sought to, among other goals, examine art from a feminist and political perspective. In addition to a variety of actions and cultural output, the collective was responsible for the overseeing the publication of the journal Heresies: A feminist publication on art and politics, which was published from 1977 until 1993. Pat Steir
Pat Steir (born 1940) is an American Painting, painter and Printmaking, printmaker. Her early work was loosely associated with conceptual art and minimalism, however, she is best known for her abstract dripped, splashed and poured "Waterfall" paintings, which she started in the 1980s, and for her later site-specific wall drawings. Steir has had retrospectives and exhibitions all over the world, including the Tate Britain, Tate Gallery in London, and shows at the Brooklyn Museum and the New Museum, New Museum of Contemporary Art that traveled throughout Europe. Sabra Moore
Sabra Moore (born January 25, 1943) is an American artist, writer, and activist. Her artwork is based on re-interpreting family, social, and natural history through the form of artist's books, sewn and constructed sculptures and paintings, and installations. She was a member of the Heresies Collective, the Women's Caucus for Art, and was a collaborator of the art collective RepoHistory. Moore is known for her large-scale, collaborative exhibitions of women's artwork including ''Views by Women Artists'' (1982), and the collaborative shows ''Reconstruction Project'' (1984) and ''Connections Project/Conexus'' (1987). Ida Applebroog
Ida Applebroog (born November 11, 1929) is an American multi-media artist who is best-known for her paintings and sculptures that explore the themes of gender, sexual identity, violence and politics. Applebroog has been the recipient of multiple honors including the MacArthur Fellowship "Genius Grant", the College Art Association Distinguished Art Award for Lifetime Achievement, an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts, New School for Social Research/Parsons School of Design. Su Friedrich
Su Friedrich (born December 12, 1954) is an American avant-garde film director, producer, writer, and cinematographer. Early life Su Friedrich was born in 1954 in New Haven, Connecticut. Her mother was German and came to the US with Friedrich's father, Paul Friedrich who was working in Germany as a GI at the time. Friedrich attended the University of Chicago (1971–72) and Oberlin College (1972–1975) from which she earned a B.A. in Art and Art History. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, and is a Professor in the Center for the Creative and Performing Arts at Princeton University, where she has taught film and video production since 1998.
