Heracles, also known as Hercules, is a Greek and Roman mythological hero known for his strength and far-ranging adventures. He is one of the most commonly portrayed figures from classical mythology in the popular culture of the 20th and 21st centuries. Plot A childhood friend enlists Hercules to protect the Roman Emperor Gordiano, who is in danger from his own mutinous Praetorian Guards. ''The Triumph of Hercules'', the 1964 film, was one of many Italian sword and sandal epics during the 1960s craze. Originally titled ''Il Trionfo di Ercole'', the film was directed by Alberto De Martino. Hercules was portrayed by Dan Vadis. The Sons Of Hercules
''The Sons of Hercules'' is a syndicated Embassy Pictures television show that aired in the United States in the 1960s. The series repackaged 13 Italian sword-and-sandal films by giving them a standardized theme song for the opening and closing titles, as well as a standard introductory narration attempting to relate the lead character in each film to the Greek demigod Hercules. These films however were not all originally made as "Hercules" films in Italy. Although two of them did originally feature Hercules (and not his sons), four of the films were originally Maciste movies in Italy, and the others were just isolated gladiator or mythological hero movies not released theatrically in the US. ''Hercules, Samson and Ulysses'', ( it, Ercole sfida Sansone) is a 1963 Italian Metrocolor ''peplum'' film directed by Pietro Francisci. The costume designers for this movie used re-purposed Nazi helmets for the Philistine headgear. Plot In Ithaca, off the coast of Greece, Hercules is living a happy family life with his wife Iole and his little son at the court of Laertes, father of Ulysses. Ulysses is a youth who demonstrates athletic ability, though not Hercules' super-strength, and is already in love with a girl named Penelope. A delegation of fishermen comes to ask King Laertes to do something about a sea monster that is killing some of them. Hercules volunteers to slay the monster, Laertes provides him with a ship and crew, and Ulysses goes along with them, taking a cageful of homing pigeons at his parents' insistence, though he says they'll be back in a day and a half. Plot Hercules captures Ulysses, during the latter's return to Ithaca, by order of Zeus. The hero intends to bring him to Polyphemus, who was blinded by Ulysses years before, but during the journey, the two heroes are captured by half-men and half-bird beings.
