Hercules W-2000
The Hercules W-2000 is a motorcycle which was made by Hercules in Germany. It was the first production motorcycle with a Wankel engine. It was designed in the late 1960s, first shown at a German trade show (Internationale Fahrrad und Motorrad-Ausstellung IFMA - the International Bicycle and Motorcycle show ) in 1970; the prototype had a Sachs KM-914 engine and a BMW 250 gearbox and shaft transmission; production started in 1974. Production halted in 1977 after 1,800 were built, sales were 40 units (a month) under the profit threshold. The tooling was sold to Norton Motors. Development Fichtel & Sachs, which became Hercules's parent company, was the second licensee of the Wankel engine, on Dec 29, 1960, and Sachs was the first motorcycle manufacturer with a license. Hercules (motorcycle)
Hercules was a brand of bicycle and motorcycle manufactured in Germany. The Hercules Company was founded in 1886 to produce bicycles by Carl Marschütz in Nuremberg, Germany and began producing motorcycles in 1904. It was merged with Zweirad Union after being purchased by ZF Sachs in 1963. In the 1950s and 1960s Sachs was the largest European fabricator of two-stroke motorcycle engines. Many of these engines were used in the ''Hercules'' line of small motorcycles, scooters and mopeds. In 1974 Hercules became the first company to offer a Wankel-engined motorcycle for sale to the general public. A prototype was first shown in 1970 at the West Cologne Autumn Motorcycle Show to a mixed reception and the production bike was sold as a Hercules product except in the United Kingdom, where it was marketed as a DKW motorcycle. Anamosa is a city in Jones County, Iowa, United States. The population was 5,450 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Jones County. National Motorcycle Museum (Anamosa, IA)
The National Motorcycle Museum is a non-profit museum located in Anamosa, Iowa. It was founded in 1989 by motorcycle builders, racers, and riders. Its purpose to maintain the experience of bikes past and present as well as motorcycle memorabilia, documents and actual vintage bikes from as far back as 1903. It was named Iowa Tourism Attraction of the Year in 2001. The museum contains a collection of motorcycles over the past 100 years as well as thousands of photos, postcards and posters. The bikes come from all over the world; there are American, Japanese, British and other European motorcycles on display. The Ontario Science Centre, formally the Centennial Museum of Science and Technology, is a science museum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located near the Don Valley Parkway about northeast of downtown on Don Mills Road just south of Eglinton Avenue East in the former city of North York. Barber Motorsports Park is an multi-purpose racing facility located in Birmingham, Alabama. It was built by George W. Barber, and includes the Barber Vintage Motorsport Museum. Museum Autovision
Museum Autovision is a museum for cars, motorcycles, bicycles (most of which were built by NSU Motorenwerke AG) and alternative propulsion in Altlußheim, a small town in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The exhibits include the original equipment from an NSU workshop from the 1920s. The museum also has a display of more than 80 Wankel engines; on display are also a dozen cars and three bicycles with Wankel engines. This also includes a cut-away model of the NSU Ro 80. For owners of electric cars a solar filling station is maintained.
