Herbert Yeates
Herbert Yeates (31 January 1879 – 24 December 1945) was an Australian politician. He was the Country Party member for East Toowoomba in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1938 to 1945. History Herbert Yeates was born at Bowen on 31 January 1879. In December 1880, his father, Sidney Yeates, who was then farming at Bowen, decided to migrate into the interior and travelled overland to Adavale ''via'' Withersfield (40 km west of Emerald) and Tambo, and in partnership with his brother-in law, James Francis Cudmore (1838–1912), purchased Boondoon Station from the Conn Brothers around January 1881, where they ran 50,000 sheep and 2000 cattle. Electoral District Of East Toowoomba
Electoral District of East Toowoomba was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created in 1912 when the old seat of Drayton & Toowoomba split into East Toowoomba, Toowoomba and Drayton. East Toowoomba ceased to exist in 1950. In the 1960 redistribution, a seat of Toowoomba East (along with Toowoomba West) was created that lasted until 1972. When East Toowoomba was lost to redistribution, Sir Gordon Chalk contested the seat of Lockyer successfully. James Francis Cudmore
Daniel Michael Paul Cudmore (1811 – 3 November 1891) was a pastoralist in the early days of South Australia and the founder of a family highly influential in that and other States, especially Queensland. History Daniel was born in Tory Hall in County Limerick, Ireland in 1811 and educated in Essex, England. In 1835 he and his wife Mary (née Nihill), together with his wife's immediate family, emigrated to Australia on the ''John Denniston'' under Captain Mackie which left Liverpool on 11 February 1835 for Sydney, Australia and arrived in Hobart, Tasmania (or Van Diemen's Land as it was then known) on 7 June 1835. His original destination may have been Sydney, but while the ship was in Hobart, he met a cousin, surgeon Captain Russell of the 63rd Regiment, who persuaded him to settle in Tasmania. Nationalist Party Of Australia
The Nationalist Party, also known as the National Party, was an Australian political party. It was formed on 17 February 1917 from a merger between the Commonwealth Liberal Party and the National Labor Party, the latter formed by Prime Minister Billy Hughes and his supporters after the 1916 Labor Party split over World War I conscription. The Nationalist Party was in government (from 1923 in coalition with the Country Party) until electoral defeat in 1929. John MacDonald (Australian Politician)
John Valentine (Jack) MacDonald (14 February 1880 – 17 August 1937) was a New Zealand-born Australian politician. MacDonald was born in Opotiki, New Zealand, the son of an Australian volunteer in the New Zealand Wars and veteran of the 1891 Australian shearers' strike. He completed his early education in New Zealand before his family migrated to New South Wales, whereafter he attended state schools. He spent time as a shearer in New South Wales and Victoria before returning to New Zealand and entering the printing trade. He began as a journeyman compositor, but shifted into journalism over time, working for the ''Wairoa Guardian'' and the Napier-based ''The Daily Telegraph'' before rising to become chief compositor and acting editor of the ''Gisborne Herald''. ''The Morning Bulletin'' is an online newspaper servicing the city of Rockhampton and the surrounding areas of Central Queensland, Australia. From 1861 to 2020, ''The Morning Bulletin'' was published as a print edition, before then becoming an exclusively online newspaper. The final print edition was published on 27 June 2020. History The first issue of ''The Bulletin'' was launched on 9 July 1861. It is the second oldest business in Rockhampton, the oldest being the Criterion Hotel which was established in October 1860. The founder and original owner, William Hitchcock Buzacott (1831–1880, brother of Charles Hardie Buzacott), brought the press and equipment from Sydney in 1861 where he operated a small weekly paper. The Federation of Australia was the process by which the six separate British self-governing colonies of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia (which also governed what is now the Northern Territory), and Western Australia agreed to unite and form the Commonwealth of Australia, establishing a system of federalism in Australia. James Page (1861 – 3 June 1921) was an Australian politician. He was an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1901 until his death, representing the electorate of Maranoa. Early life Page was born in London, England, and was raised and educated in a Barnardo's Home. He joined the British Army, serving from 1877 to 1883, and fighting as a gunner in the Royal Artillery in the Anglo-Zulu War, seeing action in the Battle of Rorke's Drift, and then again serving in the First Boer War. He "bought himself out of" the army after his war service and undertook casual work such as bricklaying, before migrating to Queensland in the 1880s on the ship ''Scottish Hero'', arriving in Rockhampton with little to his name.
