Herbert Orliffe
Herbert Orliffe (c.1905 – 3 July 1967) was a municipal politician in Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He immigrated with his family from Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle, England at age 8 and settled in Toronto. His father operated a grocery store on Harbord Street. He attended first the University of Toronto and then received a law degree from Osgoode Hall. Orliffe was an active member of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, CCF party and was first elected as a school board trustee for Ward 4. He eventually became chair of the Toronto Board of Education. He was elected to city council and ran for a position on the Toronto Board of Control, Board of Control in 1960, but lost by a slim margin. Osgoode Hall
Osgoode Hall is a landmark building in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The original -storey building was started in 1829 and finished in 1832 from a design by John Ewart and William Warren Baldwin. The structure is named for William Osgoode, the first Chief Justice of Upper Canada (now the province of Ontario). It originally served to house the regulatory body for lawyers in Ontario along with its law school, formally established as Osgoode Hall Law School in 1889, which was the only recognized professional law school for the province at the time. Toronto Board Of Control
The Board of Control of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was a part of its municipal government until it was abolished in 1969. It served as the executive committee of the Toronto City Council. When it was initially created in 1896 by mandate of the provincial government, it consisted of three Controllers appointed from and by the aldermen, and presided over by the Mayor of Toronto. Beginning in 1904, the Board of Control was directly elected by the city's electorate and consisted of four Controllers, presided over by the Mayor. William Allen (Canadian Politician)
William Randall Allen (June 29, 1919 – October 1, 1985) was a Canadian lawyer and politician who served as the Chairman of the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto from 1962 to 1969. He is the namesake of the William R. Allen Road in Toronto, Ontario. Background Born in Buckingham, Quebec (on the outskirts of Ottawa, Ontario), Allen was a graduate of St. Michael's College School, the University of Toronto, and Osgoode Hall Law School. During World War II, he enlisted with the Queen's York Rangers and attained the rank of captain, serving overseas in Britain and Europe. After being called to the Ontario Bar in 1949, Allen was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1960. He married Marjorie Hornberger; together, they raised three children. The Toronto Eaton Centre (corporately styled as the CF Toronto Eaton Centre since September 2015, and commonly referred to simply as the Eaton Centre) is a shopping mall and office complex in the downtown core of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
