Sir John Herbert Lewis (27 December 1858 – 10 November 1933) was a Welsh Liberal Party politician. Background and education Born at Mostyn Quay, Flintshire, Lewis was the only child of Enoch Lewis and Catherine Roberts. It is possible that Lewis was related to C.S. Lewis. This speculation is the result of the fact that C.S. Lewis's grandfather, Richard Lewis, was born in Flintshire in 1775. He was educated at McGill University and Exeter College, Oxford. Political career Lewis was the first Chairman of Flintshire County Council. He was Member of Parliament MP for Flint Boroughs 1892–1906. In 1894, he resigned the Liberal Whip in the so-called 'Welsh Revolt', joining David Alfred Thomas, David Lloyd George and Frank Edwards. In a letter to T. E. Ellis, Lewis wrote to his friend, then Chief Whip: 'I will never again fight a constituency as an official Liberal.' Herbie Lewis (February 17, 1941 – May 18, 2007) was an American jazz double bassist and jazz educator. He played or recorded with Cannonball Adderley, Stanley Turrentine, Bobby Hutcherson, Freddie Hubbard, Harold Land, Jackie McLean, Archie Shepp, Tete Montoliu and McCoy Tyner. Lewis was founder and director of the Jazz Studies program at New College of California. He died of cancer in May 2007. Herbert Albert Lewis (April 17, 1905 – January 20, 1991) was a Canadians, Canadian professional ice hockey Winger (ice hockey), left winger who played for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League. He was born in Calgary, Northwest Territories. Lewis was one of the fastest skaters of his day. His speed helped the Red Wings win two consecutive Stanley Cups in 1936 Stanley Cup Finals, 1936 and 1937 Stanley Cup Finals, 1937. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1989.
