Herbert Hill (cricketer)
Herbert James Hill (12 February 1867 – 27 February 1946) was an English people, English first-class cricketer. Hill was born at Kingston upon Thames in February 1867. He made his debut in Minor Counties of English and Welsh cricket, minor counties cricket for Hertfordshire County Cricket Club, Hertfordshire in the 1895 Minor Counties Championship. He made two appearances in first-class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club, playing against London County Cricket Club, London County at Crystal Palace Park Cricket Ground, Crystal Palace in 1900 and Oxford University Cricket Club, Oxford University at Lord's in 1901. He scored 90 runs in his two first-class matches, with a high score of 54 against London County. He played minor counties cricket for Hertfordshire until 1903, making a total of 42 appearances in the Minor Counties Championship. By profession he was a stockbroker. Kingston upon Thames (hyphenated until 1965, colloquially known as Kingston) is a town in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, southwest London, England. It is situated on the River Thames and southwest of Charing Cross. London County Cricket Club
London County Cricket Club was a short-lived cricket club founded by the Crystal Palace Company. In 1898 they invited WG Grace to help them form a first-class cricket club. Grace accepted the offer and became the club's secretary, manager and captain. As a result, he severed his connection with Gloucestershire CCC during the 1899 season. The club played first-class matches between 1900 and 1904. The club's home ground was Crystal Palace Park Cricket Ground in south London. Some of the leading players of the time played matches for the club while continuing to play for their usual teams, among them CB Fry, JWHT Douglas, Albert Trott and Ranjitsinhji. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. Crystal Palace Park Cricket Ground was a cricket ground in Crystal Palace in south-east London. It was located in Crystal Palace Park in the shadow of The Crystal Palace. The ground was established on 3 June 1857 and used for first-class cricket between 1864 and 1906.
