Herbert Bösch
Herbert Bösch (born September 11, 1954 in Feldkirch, Vorarlberg) is an Austrian politician who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1995 until 2009. Early life and career Bösch studied sociology and politology at the University of Konstanz. After finishing his studies he was employed in the administration of the federal state capital Bregenz. Political career From 1989 to 1994 Bösch served as Member of the Federal Council of Austria (''Bundesrat'') for the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), then Member of the National Council of Austria (''Nationalrat'') until he became MEP. In the European Parliament, Bösch was a member of the Committee on Budgets from 1995 until 1999. In 1997, he joined the Committee on Budgetary Control, which he chaired from 2007 until 2009. ''Der Standard'' is an Austrian daily newspaper published in Vienna. History and profile ''Der Standard'' was founded by Oscar Bronner as a financial newspaper and published its first edition on 19 October 1988. German media company Axel Springer acquired a stake in the paper in 1988 and sold it in 1995. Bronner remains the paper's publisher, Martin Kotynek is editor-in-chief. The European Commission (EC) is the executive of the European Union (EU). It operates as a cabinet government, with 27 members of the Commission (informally known as "Commissioners") headed by a President. It includes an administrative body of about 32,000 European civil servants. The Commission is divided into departments known as Directorates-General (DGs) that can be likened to departments or ministries each headed by a Director-General who is responsible to a Commissioner. The European Anti-Fraud Office (commonly known as OLAF, from the french: Office européen de lutte antifraude) is a body mandated by the European Union (EU) with protecting the Union's financial interests. It was founded on 28 April 1999, under the European Commission Decision 1999/352. 2009 European Parliament Election In Austria
The 2009 European Parliament election in Austria was the 2009 election of the delegation from Austria to the European Parliament. Austria will have 17 seats in the European Parliament, instead of the 18 that the country had before the re-allocation of seats. Through the Lisbon Treaty, the number of seats was graded to 19, so the SPÖ and BZÖ parties got additional seats, which are currently Observer MEPs.
