Herbert Adams (politician)
Herbert C. Adams (born ) is an American historian, politician, and journalist from Maine. A Democrat, Adams was a member of the Portland School Committee from 1997–2004. He represented the Portland neighborhoods of East Bayside and Parkside in the Maine House of Representatives. He is also a noted historian of local history, having published ''Bold Vision: the History of the Portland Park System'' in 2000. In 2010, term limits prevented him from seeking re-election, and the district he represented, 119, was won by independent Ben Chipman. In 2012, Chipman won re-election, turning back Adams' attempt to regain the seat, 1,884 to 1,272. A third contender in the race, Republican Gwendolyne Tuttle, received 317 votes. University Of Southern Maine
The University of Southern Maine (USM) is a public university with campuses in Portland, Gorham and Lewiston in the U.S. state of Maine. It is the southernmost of the University of Maine System. It was founded as two separate state universities, Gorham Normal School and Portland University. The two universities, later known as Gorham State College and the University of Maine at Portland, were combined in 1970 to help streamline the public university system in Maine and eventually expanded by adding the Lewiston campus in 1988. The Portland Campus is home to the Edmund Muskie School of Public Service, the Bio Sciences Research Institute, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the Osher Map Library, and the USM School of Business. Ben Chipman
Ben Chipman is an American Democratic politician from Maine. He is a member of the Maine Senate representing District 27, comprising part of Portland, Maine. Chipman served in the Maine House of Representatives from December 2010 until December 2016 as an independent, and since December 2016 he has served as a member of the Maine Senate as a Democrat. Early life and education Chipman earned a degree in liberal arts from the University of Maine in 1997. His professional experience includes working as a community organizer and as a legislative aide, and as of 2018 he was working as an independent notary for real estate closings. Political career Chipman worked as an aide in the Office of the Clerk at the Maine State House beginning in 2002.
