Herad
Herad is a former municipality that was located in the old Vest-Agder county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1965. The municipality encompassed the area northeast of the lake Framvaren inside the present-day municipality of Farsund in what is now Agder county. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Sande where the Herad Church is located. Name The municipality (originally the parish) was named ''Herred'' ( non, Herað) which means "village" or "hamlet". The spelling of the name was changed to ''Herad'' during the late 19th century as part of Norwegian spelling reforms. History The parish of ''Herred'' was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law). Herad Church (Vest-Agder)
Herad Church ( no, Herad kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Farsund Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Sande, Agder, Sande, along the Åptafjorden. It is one of three churches for the Farsund parish which is part of the Lister og Mandal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, concrete church was built in a Churches in Norway#Floor plan, long church design in 1957 using plans drawn up by the architect Christen A. Christensen. The church seats about 170 people. History The first church was probably constructed in Herad in 1570. It was a timber-framed church with a rectangular nave and a narrower, rectangular chancel. In 1840, a new cruciform church was built about to the southwest of the church. When the new church was completed, the old church was torn down. In 1948, the church burned down. Spind
Spind is a former municipality that was located in the old Vest-Agder county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1893 until 1965. It was located on the Spind peninsula in the western part of the present-day municipality of Farsund in Agder county. The peninsula lies between the Lygndalsfjord and the Rosfjord. The administrative centre of Spind was located in the village of Rødland where Spind Church is located. Vest-Agder
Vest-Agder (; "West Agder") was one of 18 counties (''fylker'') in Norway up until 1 January 2020, when it was merged with Aust-Agder to form Agder county. Lista is a former municipality located in the old Vest-Agder county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1965. () is the name for Norwegian local self-government districts that were legally enacted on 1 January 1838. This system of municipalities was created in a bill approved by the Parliament of Norway and signed into law by King Carl Johan on 14 January 1837. List Of Former Municipalities Of Norway
This is a list of former municipalities of Norway, i.e. municipalities that no longer exist. When the local council system was introduced in Norway in 1837-38, the country had 392 municipalities. In 1958 the number had grown to a total of 744 rural municipalities, 64 city municipalities as well as a small number of small seaports with '' ladested'' status. A committee led by Nikolai Schei, formed in 1946 to examine the situation, proposed hundreds of mergers to reduce the number of municipalities and improve the quality of local administration. Most of the mergers were carried out, albeit to significant popular protest. As of January 2006 there are 431 municipalities in Norway, and there are plans for further mergers and political pressure to do so. Farsund (town)
is the administrative centre of Farsund municipality in Agder county, Norway. The town is located near the mouth of the Lyngdalsfjorden, about east of the village of Vanse. Frelserens Church is the main church for the town. The town has a population (2019) of 3,377 and a population density of .
