Heracles
Heracles ( ; grc-gre, Ἡρακλῆς, , glory/fame of Hera), born Alcaeus (, ''Alkaios'') or Alcides (, ''Alkeidēs''), was a divine hero in Greek mythology, the son of Zeus and Alcmene, and the foster son of Amphitryon.By his adoptive descent through Amphitryon, Heracles receives the epithet Alcides, as "of the line of Alcaeus", father of Amphitryon. Amphitryon's own, mortal son was Iphicles. He was a great-grandson and half-brother (as they are both sired by the god Zeus) of Perseus, and similarly a half-brother of Dionysus. He was the greatest of the Greek heroes, the ancestor of royal clans who claimed to be Heracleidae (), and a champion of the Olympian order against chthonic monsters. ''Heracles inexpectatus'' is a giant fossil parrot species from New Zealand, assigned to a monotypic genus ''Heracles'', that lived during the early Miocene approximately 16 to 19 million years ago. The species was described from two tibiotarsus fossils discovered in 2008 at Saint Bathans, Otago, New Zealand. It is believed that the species stood up to 90 cm (2 ft 11 in) tall and weighed approximately 7 kg (15 lb). Initial analysis suggests that this parrot is from the order Psittaciforme and from the superfamily Strigopoidea, which consists of three confirmed primitive genera of parrots: '' Nestor'' (kea and kaka), '' Strigops'' (kakapo) and the fossil '' Nelepsittacus''. It may have been the ancestor of the kakapo. The species was likely flightless, and its robust beak could crack open more than the conventional parrot foods of fruit, nuts, and berries. 5143 Heracles, provisional designation , is a highly eccentric, rare-type asteroid and synchronous binary system, classified as near-Earth object of the Apollo group, approximately 4.8 kilometers in diameter. The asteroid was discovered on 7 November 1991, by American astronomer Carolyn Shoemaker at Palomar Observatory in California, United States. It is named for the Greek divine hero Heracles. It has an Earth minimum orbit intersection distance of and is associated with the Beta Taurids daytime meteor shower. Heracles of Macedon ( grc, Ἡρακλῆς; c. 327 – 309 BC) was a reputed illegitimate son of Alexander the Great of Macedon by Barsine, daughter of Satrap Artabazus of Phrygia. ''Herakles'' was a pusher vessel owned by Finnish towing and marine salvage company Alfons Håkans Oy Ab. The ship, originally built as salvage tug ''Into'' in 1967, was converted to a pusher in 1991 to be chartered to Rautaruukki Oyj and later ESL Shipping Ltd as the third pusher vessel for the '' Finnpusku'' system, a Finnish integrated tug and barge system built in the mid-80s. Benjamin Franklin Wedekind (July 24, 1864 – March 9, 1918) was a German playwright.
