Her Vengeance
''Her Vengeance'' is a 1988 Hong Kong film directed by Lam Ngai Kai, Lam Nai-Choi and starring Pauline Wong. It is a remake of the 1973 Rape and revenge film, rape and revenge film ''Kiss of Death'' with elements taken from the 1978 American film ''I Spit on Your Grave, I Spit On Your Grave''. Plot At a Macao nightclub employee Ying (Pauline Wong) inadvertently angers a group of drunken men who follow Wong after her shift has ended and proceed to rape her. After her traumatic ordeal, her blind sister (Elaine Kam) encourages her to seek revenge leading her to ask former-triad Hung (Lam Ching-ying) for help. Hung gives her a job at his lounge as a waiter and helps her find somewhere new to live, but refuses to help her take revenge. Rotten Tomatoes is an American review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Although the name "Rotten Tomatoes" connects to the practice of audiences throwing rotten tomatoes in disapproval of a poor stage performance, the original inspiration comes from a scene featuring tomatoes in the Canadian film ''Léolo'' (1992). Rape and revenge films are a subgenre of exploitation film that was particularly popular in the 1970s, but attracted controversy as a target of extreme cinema. Explanation of the subgenre Rape and revenge films generally follow the same three-act structure: * Act I: The character is (violently) raped and maybe further abused, tortured or left for dead. * Act II: The character survives and may rehabilitate themselves. * Act III: The character exacts revenge and/or kills their rapist(s). In Gaspar Noé's 2002 film '' Irréversible'', the structure was reversed, with the first act depicting the revenge before tracing back the events which led to that point. ''I Spit on Your Grave'' (originally titled ''Day of the Woman'') is a 1978 American rape and revenge horror film edited, written, and directed by Meir Zarchi. The film tells the story of Jennifer Hills (Camille Keaton), a fiction writer based in New York City who exacts revenge on each of her tormentors after four men gang rape and leave her for dead. The film is noted for its controversial depiction of extreme graphic violence, particularly the lengthy depictions of gang rape, that take up 30 minutes of the film's runtime. During its wider release, it was branded a "video nasty" in the United Kingdom, and was a target of censorship by film commissioning bodies. As such, film critic Roger Ebert became one of the most notable detractors of the film, calling it "a vile bag of garbage". Shing Fui-On (成奎安; 1 February 1955 – 27 August 2009) was a Hong Kong actor, best known for his supporting roles in Hong Kong cinema. He had only one leading role in his entire career. Biography Shing Fui-On was the fourth of five siblings in a Hakka family. Due to family poverty, Shing had to drop out of school at the age of 13. At the age of 15, he worked as an extra at Shaw Brothers, and later moved to Golden Harvest before working at a dance hall. Shing Fui-On was an original resident of Sai Kung's Nam Wai Village. In 2003, he was elected the village chief. In 2007, he was elected to the post for a fifth time.
