Henryk Górecki
Henryk Mikołaj Górecki ( , ; 6 December 1933 – 12 November 2010) was a Polish composer of contemporary classical music. According to critic Alex Ross (music critic), Alex Ross, no recent classical composer has had as much commercial success as Górecki. He became a leading figure of the Polish avant-garde during the post-Joseph Stalin, Stalin cultural thaw. His Anton Webern-influenced serialism, serialist works of the 1950s and 1960s were characterized by adherence to Consonance and dissonance, dissonant modernism (music), modernism and influenced by Luigi Nono, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Krzysztof Penderecki and Kazimierz Serocki. He continued in this direction throughout the 1960s, but by the mid-1970s had changed to a less complex holy minimalism, sacred minimalist sound, exemplified by the transitional Symphony No. 2 (Górecki), Symphony No. 2 and the Symphony No. 3 (Górecki), Symphony No. 3 (''Symphony of Sorrowful Songs''). Czernica, Silesian Voivodeship
Czernica (german: Czernitz) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Gaszowice, within Rybnik County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It lies approximately south-west of Gaszowice, west of Rybnik, and south-west of the regional capital Katowice. The village has an approximate population of 2,100, and covers an area of 5.18 km2. It is the birthplace of the composer Henryk Górecki. The name of the village is derived from the river flowing through the village. Czernica was first mentioned in a document of 17 March 1317. Between 1880 and 1966, gypsum was mined nearby.
