Henry Wynn (MP For Merioneth)
Henry Wynn (c. 1602 – 27 July 1671) was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1624 and 1671. Wynn was the son of Sir John Wynn, 1st Baronet of Gwydir. He was admitted to Inner Temple in November 1618. In 1624 he was elected Member of Parliament for Merioneth and was re-elected in 1625. He was called to the bar in 1629. In April 1640, Wynn was elected MP for Merioneth again in the Short Parliament. In 1661, Wynn was elected MP for Merioneth in the Cavalier Parliament The Cavalier Parliament of England lasted from 8 May 1661 until 24 January 1679. House Of Commons Of England
The House of Commons of England was the lower house of the Parliament of England (which incorporated Wales) from its development in the 14th century to the union of England and Scotland in 1707, when it was replaced by the House of Commons of Great Britain after the 1707 Act of Union was passed in both the English and Scottish parliaments at the time. In 1801, with the union of Great Britain and Republic of Ireland, Ireland, that house was in turn replaced by the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. William Price (Royalist Colonel)
William Price (1619–1691) was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons in two periods between 1640 and 1679. He fought as a Royalist colonel in the English Civil War. Personal Rule
The Personal Rule (also known as the Eleven Years' Tyranny) was the period from 1629 to 1640, when King Charles I of England, Scotland and Ireland ruled without recourse to Parliament. The King claimed that he was entitled to do this under the Royal Prerogative. Charles had already dissolved three Parliaments by the third year of his reign in 1628. After the murder of George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham, who was deemed to have a negative influence on Charles' foreign policy, Parliament began to criticize the king more harshly than before. Charles then realized that, as long as he could avoid war, he could rule without Parliament. Names Whig historians such as S. R. Gardiner called this period the "Eleven Years' Tyranny", because they interpret Charles's actions as authoritarian and a contributing factor to the instability that led to the English Civil War. Sir John Wynn, 1st Baronet
Sir John Wynn, 1st Baronet (1553 – 1 March 1627), was a Welsh baronet, Member of Parliament and antiquary. Life He was the son of Morys Wynn ap John, whom he succeeded in 1580, inheriting Gwydir Castle in Carnarvonshire. John was educated at All Souls College, Oxford (1570, awarded BA 1578) and studied law at Furnival's Inn (1572) and the Inner Temple (1576). He claimed to be directly descended from the princes of Gwynedd through Rhodri ab Owain son of Owain Gwynedd. The male line from his family died out in 1779 (see 'Legacy' section below) and the senior male line passed to the Anwyl of Tywyn family. His mother was Jane (Siân) Bulkeley, daughter of Sir Richard Bulkeley and his wife Catherine Griffith, and sister of Sir Richard Bulkeley, head of the Anglesey branch of a powerful landowning family, who originally came from Cheshire. Ellis Lloyd (of Rhiwgogh)
Ellis Lloyd was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1614. Lloyd was the son of Robert Lloyd of Rhiwgoch and his wife Margaret Nanney, daughter of Hugh Nanney of Nannau, Dolgelly.
