Henry Watson (1737–1786)
Colonel Henry Watson (1737 – 17 September 1786) was a British military engineer who worked in India. He was known for his mathematical abilities and knowledge of engineering, was involved in the design of the Calcutta dockyard, and served as a chief engineer of Bengal. An area in Calcutta known as Watgunge is named after him. Watson was the son of a grazier from Holbeach, Lincolnshire. He showed a talent for mathematics at Birke's school in Gosberton near Spalding. He was recommended to Thomas Whichcote of Harpeswell, MP for Lincolnshire, who had him tested by the master of Brigg school, following which he nominated Watson to the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich. He received training from Professor Thomas Simpson who became a close friend and contributed articles to '' The Ladies' Diary'', a mathematical periodical. Henry William Watson
Rev. Henry William Watson Fellow of the Royal Society, FRS (25 February 1827, Marylebone, London11 January 1903, Berkswell near Coventry) was a mathematician and author of a number of mathematics books. He was an ordained priest and Cambridge Apostle. Life He was born at Marylebone on 25 Feb. 1827. He was the son of Thomas Watson, R.N., and Eleanor Mary Kingston. He was educated at King's College London and at Trinity College, Cambridge. He graduated as second Wrangler (University of Cambridge), wrangler and Smith's prizeman in 1850, Dr. W. H. Besant being senior wrangler. He became fellow in 1851, and from 1851 to 1853 was assistant tutor. Watson formed a close friendship with James Fitzjames Stephen, who entered Trinity in 1847. Henry Winfield Watson
Henry Winfield Watson (June 24, 1856 – August 27, 1933) was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Henry W. Watson was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was educated in private schools, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1881, and commenced the practice of his profession in Philadelphia. He served as president of the Washington, Potomac & Chesapeake Railway Company. He was the director of several banks and of the Langhorne Water Company. Watson was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth and to the nine succeeding Congresses and served until his death in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Henry Holgate Watson (December 25, 1867 – January 19, 1949) was a druggist and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Vancouver City from 1909 to 1916 in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia as a Conservative. Reginald Oliver Denny (born 1953) is a former construction truck driver who was pulled from his truck and severely beaten during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. His attackers, a group of Black men who came to be known as the "L.A. Four", targeted Denny because he was White. The attack was captured on video by a news helicopter and broadcast live on U.S. national television. Four other Black L.A. residents who had been witnessing the attack on live television came to Denny's aid, placing him back in his truck and driving him to the hospital. Denny suffered a fractured skull and impairment of his speech and his ability to walk, for which he underwent years of rehabilitative therapy. ''Narrative of Henry Watson, a fugitive slave'' is a slave narrative by Henry Watson (b. about 1813), an African-American slave and abolitionist. His work is autobiographical, characteristic of the slave narratives of fugitive slaves of the period before emancipation. It is written in a "polemical" style typical of fugitive slave narratives and details the abuses he experienced while enslaved. Unlike most fugitive slave narratives, however, Watson's memoir recounts his self-doubt rather than projecting an image of heroism. Summary Watson was enslaved for 26 years in Virginia and Mississippi before escaping to the North. Henry Watson Powell
General Henry Watson Powell (1733 – 14 July 1814) was a British officer during the Seven Years' War and American Revolutionary War. Powell was born in England in 1733. He commissioned as a Lieutenant on 10 March 1753, with the 46th Regiment of Foot. He was promoted to captain on 2 September 1756 and given command of the 2nd battalion, 11th Regiment of Foot. That unit was renamed the 64th Regiment of Foot and served in the Seven Years' War in the French West Indies in 1759. Captain Powell also deployed with his regiment to the Americas in 1768. On 2 June 1770, Powell was promoted to major in the 38th Regiment of Foot. A year later, on 23 July 1771, Powell was promoted to lieutenant colonel and given command of the 53rd Regiment of Foot.
