Henry Tuson
General Sir Henry Brasnell Tuson (30 April 1836 – 21 December 1916) was a Royal Marines officer who served as Deputy Adjutant-General Royal Marines. Military career Educated at Christ's Hospital, Tuson was commissioned into the Royal Marine Artillery on 20 April 1854. First And Second Battles Of El Teb
The First and Second Battles of El Teb (4 February 1884 and 29 February 1884) took place during the British Sudan Campaign where a force of Sudanese under Osman Digna won a victory over a 3,500 strong Egyptian force under the command of General Valentine Baker which was marching to relieve Tokar on the 4th. A second British force under Sir Gerald Graham arrived on the 29th, engaging and defeating Osman Digna with few casualties. Background Britain's involvement in the Sudan was a consequence of its support for the Khedive of Egypt following the repression of Urabi Pasha's revolt in 1882. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Military Order". Lieutenant General John Ignatius Morris (29 March 1842 – 1 October 1902) was a Royal Marines officer who served as Deputy Adjutant-General Royal Marines. Military career Morris was the son of Rev. G. S. Morris, of Bretforton, Worcestershire. He was commissioned into the Royal Marine Light Infantry on 12 May 1859. He sailed in the first-rate HMS ''Queen'' off the coast of Naples in the aftermath of the Second Italian War of Independence in 1860 and then sailed off the coast of Syria during the Mount Lebanon Civil War later that year. In the early 1860s he landed several times with armed parties to protect British interests in the Eastern Mediterranean, including Lebanon and Greece. Morris served in the Nile Expedition in 1884, and was with the Royal Marine battalion at the Suakin Expedition in 1885. General Sir Howard Sutton Jones (10 February 1835 – 8 December 1912) was a Royal Marines officer who served as Deputy Adjutant-General Royal Marines. The Order of Osmanieh or Order of Osmaniye ( ota, نشانِ عثمانیہ) was a civil and military decoration of the Ottoman Empire. History The order was created in January 1862 by Sultan Abdülaziz. With the obsolescence of the Nişan-i Iftikhar, this became the second highest order in the Empire, ranking below the Nişan-i Imtiyaz. It was awarded by the Sultan to Ottoman civil servants and military leaders for outstanding services to the state. Generally, it could not be awarded to women, but exceptions appear to have been made at the Sultan's discretion. The order was originally established in three classes. Battle Of Tel El-Kebir
The Battle of Tel El Kebir (often spelled Tel-El-Kebir) was fought on 13 September 1882 at Tell El Kebir in Egypt, 110 km north-north-east of Cairo. An entrenched Egyptian force under the command of Ahmed ʻUrabi was defeated by a British army led by Garnet Wolseley, in a sudden assault preceded by a march under cover of darkness. The battle was the decisive engagement of the Anglo-Egyptian War. Background Bombardment and invasion of Alexandria On May 20, 1882, a combined Franco–British fleet arrived at Alexandria. At the same time, Egyptian troops were reinforcing the coastal defenses of the city in anticipation of an attack.
