Henry Turner (10 November 1844 – 9 August 1932) was a member of both the Queensland Legislative Council and the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Turner was born in November 1844 at Aynho, Northamptonshire, England to Thomas Turner and his wife Leah (née Fathers). He was apprenticed in a plant nursery and then worked as a gardener. Harry Turner (Australian Politician)
Henry Basil Turner (8 July 1905 – 19 September 1988) was an Australian politician. Born in Woolwich, New South Wales to metallurgist Basil William Turner and Mabel Lily, née Breillat, he attended Malvern School in Sydney, and then the University of Sydney and Cambridge University. In 1930 he became a barrister. He married Mildred Mary Raymond at Mosman on 4 July 1931; they were to have three daughters and a son. In 1937, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the seat of Gordon, representing the United Australia Party. He held the seat until 1952, during which time the United Australia Party became the Liberal Party. He was on military service 1940–44. In 1952, following the death of Billy Hughes, Turner successfully contested the resulting by-election for the federal seat of Bradfield. He held the seat until his retirement in 1974; during that time he was often a delegate to overseas conventions, including the United Nations in 1963. He died in ... Lawrence Turner
Henry Frederic Lawrence Turner (30 December 1908 – 17 December 1977) was a British Conservative Party politician. As an officer in the Royal Artillery during the Second World War, he survived three years as a prisoner of war of the Japanese; he passed his captivity by lecturing on politics. After the war ended he moved into politics and was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Oxford. Although generally moderate in politics, his support for British intervention in Suez led him to resign the Conservative Party whip. He lived an extravagant lifestyle far beyond his means, which brought his career to a premature end and led to bankruptcy. Hugh Turner (theologian)
Henry Ernest William "Hugh" Turner (14 January 1907 – 14 December 1995) was an English Anglican priest, theologian, and academic. Having served his curacy in the Diocese of Carlisle, Turner spent most of the next four decades of his ordained ministry as a scholar priest. From 1935 to 1950, he served as a fellow and tutor in theology at Lincoln College, Oxford: he also held other appointments at his college, including chaplain, librarian and senior tutor. He served as a Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve chaplain during the Second World War. In 1950, Tutner moved to Durham in North East England, where he joined its university as Lightfoot Professor of Divinity and its cathedral as a Canon Residentiary. He changed chairs in 1958, and served as Van Mildert Professor of Divinity until his retirement in 1974. He additionally served as Sub-Dean of Durham Cathedral from 1959 to 1974. Henry Gyles Turner (12 December 1831 – 30 November 1920), commonly referred to as "Gyles Turner" was a notable Australian banker and historian. Turner was born at Kensington, London. He was educated at the Poland-street academy and at 15 years of age was apprenticed to William Pickering, the publisher. In 1850, he joined the London joint stock bank and in September 1854, sailed for Australia, arrived in Melbourne on 4 December, and joined the staff of the Bank of Australasia. In 1865, he became accountant of this bank, and in 1870, general manager of the Commercial Bank of Australia, then a comparatively small institution. Under his management it became one of the leading banks of Australia. In the bank crisis of 1893, it suffered very heavy losses and did not recover its position for many years. Henry McNeal Turner
Henry McNeal Turner (February 1, 1834 – May 8, 1915) was an American minister, politician, and the 12th elected and consecrated bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME). After the American Civil War, he worked to establish new A.M.E. congregations among African Americans in Georgia. Born free in South Carolina, Turner had learned to read and write and became a Methodist preacher. He joined the AME Church in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1858, where he became a minister. Founded by free blacks in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the early 19th century, the A.M.E. Church was the first independent black denomination in the United States. Later Turner had pastorates in Baltimore, Maryland, and Washington, DC. In 1863 during the American Civil War, Turner was appointed by the US Army as the first African-American chaplain in the United States Colored Troops. Henry Hubert Turner (August 28, 1892 – August 4, 1970) was an American endocrinologist, noted for his published description of Turner syndrome in 1938 at the annual meeting of the Association for the Study of Internal Secretions. He served as chief of endocrinology and as associate dean of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Turner was born in Harrisburg, Illinois. He received his medical education at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, graduating in 1921. He died in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1970, 24 days before his 78th birthday. Henry "Flash" Turner (September 1, 1913 – August 13, 2000) was an American baseball catcher in the Negro leagues. He played with the Jacksonville Red Caps/Cleveland Bears from 1937 to 1942 and the Cleveland Buckeyes in 1943. Career Turner broke into the major leagues of black baseball with the Jacksonville Red Caps in 1938. In 13 documented games, he batted .295. He remained with the club when they became the Cleveland Bears the following year and led the Negro American League in batting average with .393 in 23 recorded games played with 21 runs batted in. He played in 18 documented games the following year and batted .213 before the club returned to Jacksonville as the Red Caps, where he played 13 documented combined games over the next two years, collecting eight hits. Henry Ashby Turner, Jr. (April 4, 1932 – December 17, 2008) was an American historian of Germany who was a professor at Yale University for over forty years. He is best known for his book ''German Big Business and the Rise of Hitler'' (1985) in which he challenged the common theory that industrialists in Germany were the Nazi Party’s most influential supporters. Life and career Turner was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and attended public schools in Maryland. He received his B.A. from Washington and Lee University in 1954 and spent the 1954-1955 academic year as a Fulbright scholar at the University of Munich and the Free University of Berlin in Germany.
