Henry T. Clark
Henry Toole Clark (February 7, 1808 April 14, 1874) was the 36th Governor of the U.S. state of North Carolina from 1861 to 1862 during the American Civil War. Early life Henry T. Clark was born to a prominent Edgecombe County, North Carolina, planter family. His father, James West Clark, served as a US Congressman and later as a Navy Department official in the Andrew Jackson administration. The Clarks were members of that elite planter class that dominated social and political thought in eastern North Carolina. Henry Clark devoted over twenty years to the service of the Democratic Party at the local, state, and national levels, and over ten years as a state senator. Giles Mebane
Giles Mebane (1809–1899) was a North Carolina politician who served in the North Carolina General Assembly as Speaker of the North Carolina Senate during most of the American Civil War (North Carolina General Assembly of 1862-1864, 1862–1865). Biography He was the grandson of Congressman Alexander Mebane and the son of Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives James Mebane. Mebane married Mary Yancey, the daughter of Bartlett Yancey, in 1837. He represented Orange County, North Carolina, Orange County (later Alamance County after the latter county was formed in 1849) in the North Carolina House of Commons from 1844 through 1850 as a member of the Whig Party (United States), Whig Party. He returned to the House in 1854 and 1858 before being elected to the North Carolina Senate, Senate in 1861. William Waightstill Avery
William Waightstill Avery (1816–1864) was a North Carolina politician and lawyer. He served in the North Carolina House of Commons and State Senate prior to the U.S. Civil War. He represented North Carolina in the Provisional Confederate Congress. He was an outspoken advocate of higher education, graduate of the University of North Carolina and member of the Board of Trustees of the university. Early life Born at Swan Ponds in Burke County, North Carolina, he was the brother of Isaac E. Avery, the son of Isaac Thomas Avery, and the grandson of Waightstill Avery. Tarboro is a town located in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, United States. It is part of the Rocky Mount Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2020 census, the town had a population of 10,721. It is the county seat of Edgecombe County. The town is on the opposite bank of the Tar River from Princeville. It is also part of the Rocky Mount-Wilson-Roanoke Rapids CSA.
