Henry Southwell (politician)
Henry Southwell (September 1700 – 20 October 1758), styled The Honourable from 1717, was an Irish politician and soldier. He was the second son of Thomas Southwell, 1st Baron Southwell and his wife Lady Meliora Coningsby, eldest daughter of Thomas Coningsby, 1st Earl Coningsby and his first wife Barbara Gorges. His uncles were William Southwell and Richard Southwell. In 1729, Southwell entered the Irish House of Commons for County Limerick, the same constituency his father and his older brother Thomas had represented before, and sat for it until his death in 1758. Thomas Southwell, 1st Baron Southwell
Thomas Southwell, 1st Baron Southwell PC (Ire) (1665 – 4 August 1720), known as Sir Thomas Southwell, 2nd Baronet from 1681 to 1717, was an Irish peer and politician. Background He was the oldest son of Richard Southwell, son of Sir Thomas Southwell, 1st Baronet, and his wife Lady Elizabeth O'Brien, daughter of Murrough O'Brien, 1st Earl of Inchiquin. His younger brothers were William Southwell and Richard Southwell. In 1681, his father having predeceased him, Southwell succeeded his grandfather as baronet. During the Glorious Revolution of 1689, after he led an unsuccessful rising in County Galway, he and his brother were attainted by the parliament of King James II of England. Thomas Coningsby, 1st Earl Coningsby PC (2 November 1656 – 1 May 1729) of Hampton Court Castle, Herefordshire, was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times from 1679 until 1716 when he was created a peer and sat in the House of Lords Early life Coningsby was the son of Humphrey Coningsby of Hampton Court, and his wife Lettice Loftus, eldest daughter of Sir Arthur Loftus of Rathfarnham, Ireland. He was the great-grandson of Sir Thomas Coningsby. In 1679, Coningsby was elected Member of Parliament for Leominster. William Southwell (1669 – 23 January 1720) was an Irish politician and British Army officer. Background He was the third son of Richard Southwell of Castle Matrix, Co. Limerick, and his wife Lady Elizabeth O'Brien, daughter of Murrough O'Brien, 1st Earl of Inchiquin. His older brothers were Thomas Southwell, 1st Baron Southwell and Richard Southwell. Richard Southwell (c. 1671 – 17 September 1729) was an Irish politician. He was the fifth and youngest son of Richard Southwell and his wife Lady Elizabeth O'Brien, daughter of Murrough O'Brien, 1st Earl of Inchiquin and Elizabeth St. Leger. The Irish House of Commons was the lower house of the Parliament of Ireland that existed from 1297 until 1800. The upper house was the House of Lords. The membership of the House of Commons was directly elected, but on a highly restrictive franchise, similar to the unreformed House of Commons in contemporary England and Great Britain. Catholics were disqualified from sitting in the Irish parliament from 1691, even though they comprised the vast majority of the Irish population. Hugh Massy, 1st Baron Massy
Hugh Massy, 1st Baron Massy (1700 – 30 January 1788) was an Anglo-Irish peer and politician. Massy was the son of Colonel Hugh Massy and the elder brother of General Eyre Massey, 1st Baron Clarina. He married firstly Mary Dawson, daughter of Colonel James Dawson by who he had four children. He married secondly Rebecca Delap, daughter of Francis Delap of Antigua, and had a further seven children. He was appointed High Sheriff of County Limerick for 1739 and was a Member of the Irish House of Commons for Limerick County between 1759 and 1776. Subsequently, he represented Old Leighlin until 1777. In 1776 he was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Massy, of Duntrileague in the County of Limerick.
