Henry S. Benedict
Henry Stanley Benedict (February 20, 1878 – July 10, 1930) was an American lawyer and politician who served briefly as a U.S. Representative from California from 1916 to 1917. Early life and education Benedict was born in Boonville, Missouri in 1878 and moved with his parents to Los Angeles, California in 1888. He attended grammar and high school in Los Angeles and then went on to attend the University of Southern California College of Law in Los Angeles, California. Benedict was admitted to the bar in 1910 and began practicing law in Los Angeles, California. Political career He served as a member of the California State Assembly from 1910 to 1914, and a member of the California State Senate from 1914 to 1916. Boonville, Missouri
Boonville is a city and the county seat of Cooper County, Missouri, United States. The population was 7,964 at the 2020 census. The city was the site of a skirmish early in the Civil War, on July 17, 1861. Union forces defeated the Missouri State Guard in the first Battle of Boonville. It is part of the Columbia, Missouri metropolitan area. History The community derives its name from Nathan and Daniel Morgan Boone, who were the sons of Daniel Boone and established their salt business near the community in the early 1800s, delivering their product from salt licks to St. Louis. 1916 United States House of Representatives elections were held, coinciding with the re-election of President Woodrow Wilson. Wilson eked out a narrow re-election, but his Democratic Party lost seats to the Republican Party. Wilson's hybrid approach, which injected a progressive element into Democratic policies, had proved to be dissatisfying to much of the nation. International affairs also became important in the traditionally non-interventionist United States, as voters attempted to determine which party would be best served to keep the nation from entering The Great War. A write-in candidate is a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot but seeks election by asking voters to cast a vote for the candidate by physically writing in the person's name on the ballot. The 65th United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, DC from March 4, 1917, to March 4, 1919, during the fifth and sixth years of Woodrow Wilson's presidency.
