Henry Pelham, 3rd Earl Of Chichester
Henry Thomas Pelham, 3rd Earl of Chichester DL (25 August 1804 – 15 March 1886), styled Lord Pelham until 1826, was an English peer. Background and education Pelham was born on Stratton Street, Piccadilly, the son of Thomas Pelham, 2nd Earl of Chichester and Lady Mary Henrietta Juliana Osborne. He was educated at Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge. Military career Pelham was commissioned a cornet in the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons on 24 June 1824, transferring to the Royal Horse Guards on 14 October of that year. He succeeded his father as Earl of Chichester in 1826. He became a Deputy Lieutenant of Sussex on 5 April 1827, and was promoted lieutenant on 28 April, becoming an unattached captain on 3 April 1828. Chichester was promoted to major in 1841 and retired from the army in 1844. Lieutenant colonel John Stuart Bligh, 6th Earl of Darnley DL (16 April 1827 – 14 December 1896), styled Lord Clifton from 1831 to 1835, lord of the Manor of Cobham, Kent, was a British peer. Stanmer Park is a large public park immediately to the west of the University of Sussex, and to the north-east of the city of Brighton in the county of East Sussex, England, United Kingdom, UK. It is a Local Nature Reserve and English Heritage, under the National Heritage Act 1983, has registered the park on the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England at Grade II level. The eighteenth century park contains the Grade I listed Stanmer House and also 25 Grade II listed buildings and structures. Reverend Francis Godolphin Pelham, 5th Earl of Chichester (18 October 1844 – 21 April 1905), known as Hon. Francis Pelham until 1902, was a British cleric and nobleman. Life Pelham was the son of Henry Pelham, 3rd Earl of Chichester and Lady Mary Brudenell. He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was a sporting 'blue', representing the university in athletics and cricket and playing cricket for Sussex before graduating with a BA in 1868. Pursuing a career in the church, he was rector of Lambeth from 1884 to 1894, rector of Buckhurst Hill, Essex from 1894 to 1900 and Vicar of Great Yarmouth from 1900 to 1903. He was also a Canon of Bangor Cathedral. Pelham succeeded his elder brother Walter Pelham (who died childless) as Earl of Chichester in May 1902.
