Sir Henry Puckering, 3rd Baronet
Sir Henry Puckering, 3rd Baronet (Newton until 1654, 1618–1701) was an English royalist and politician. Life Baptised at St. Dunstan's-in-the-West, London, on 13 April 1618, he was a younger son of Sir Adam Newton of Charlton, Kent, by Katharine, daughter of Lord-keeper Sir John Puckering. On the death of his elder brother, Sir William Newton, he succeeded to the title of baronet and estates. He was admitted at the Inner Temple in 1631, and received an MA from Cambridge on the King's visit there in early 1632. At the outbreak of the First English Civil War he raised a troop of horse for the king, and was present at the battle of Edgehill. After the king's defeat at the battle of Naseby, however he sought to make terms with the parliament, and in 1646 his fine was fixed (at £1,273); the Commons on 13 July 1647 ordered his fine to be accepted, and pardoned his delinquency. Henry Newton (Canadian Politician)
Henry Newton (1731 – January 29, 1802) was a political figure in Nova Scotia. He was a member of the 1st and 2nd General Assembly of Nova Scotia, from 1758 to 1760. He was the son of Hibbert Newton, member of the Nova Scotia Council and collector of customs for Nova Scotia at Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, and Hannah Adams, the daughter of John Adams, a member of the Legislative Council. Newton was customs collector for Halifax. He first married Charlotte, the daughter of Benjamin Green. After the death of his first wife, Newton married Anne Stuart, the daughter of painter Gilbert Stuart. In 1763, he was named to the province's Legislative Council. He died in Halifax. His sister Hannah Adams Newton married Jonathan Binney and his brother John also served in the Nova Scotia assembly. Henry Newton (footballer)
Henry Newton (born 18 February 1944) is an English former football midfielder, who made almost 500 league appearances for Football League teams during the 1960s and 1970s. He started at his home town club Nottingham Forest and played 282 League matches for them. In total he made 315 senior appearances for them, scoring 15 goals, and he was at the club when they finished runners-up in the Football League First Division in 1966-67. He left the club in 1970 to join Everton and played his first game for the "Toffees" on 17 October 1970. He was to make 85 senior appearances and score 6 goals for them before moving to Derby County, his last game for the club coming in September 1973. Newton made over 100 League appearances at Derby before finishing his career at Walsall. At Derby he was part of the team that won the First Division in 1975. Henry Chance Newton (13 March 1854 – 2 January 1931) was a British author and theatre critic for ''Sunday Referee, The Referee'' magazine. Newton had written about the stage since 1875 when he joined the staff of ''Hood's Comic Annual.'' He wrote using the pseudonym Gawain, the London correspondent, for the New York Dramatic Mirror, and as Carados for ''The Referee.'' Newton, in conjunction with Richard Butler (author), Richard Butler, wrote libretti for musical comedy under the joint collaborative name of Richard Henry (pseudonym), Richard Henry. Henry Charles Newton (1805-1882) was a British painter, and one of the original founders of the art material company Winsor & Newton. Biography In 1832, together with William Winsor, chemist, Newton founded Winsor & Newton in a small shop at 38 Rathbone Place in London, his home, "''which was then part of an artists’ quarter in which a number of eminent painters, including John Constable, had studios, and other colourmen were already established''". "''In 1832, both men were in their late twenties and shared an interest in painting. Newton was the more artistically gifted of the two whereas Winsor, who also painted, contributed the scientific knowledge that was to be so important''". William Winsor died in 1865. Henry Newton (5 January 1866 – 25 September 1947) was an Anglican Colony, colonial bishop who served two Southern Hemisphere dioceses in the first half of the 20th century. Early life Newton was born Henry Wilkinson, the son of Thomas Wilkinson and his wife Anne (née Magney), in Buckland River (Victoria), Buckland, near Beechworth, Victoria (Australia), Victoria. In 1876 he was adopted by the Rev Frederick Robert Newton, and subsequently took his surname. Clerical career He was educated at St. Paul's College, Sydney and Merton College, Oxford. Ordained in 1891, after a curacy at Church of St John-at-Hackney, St John's, Hackney, London, Hackney he returned to the Antipodes where he became priest at St Agnes Anglican Church, Esk, St Agnes's Church, Esk, Queensland, and then a missionary in New Guinea. Henry Newton (diplomat)
Sir Henry Newton (1651–1715) was a British judge and diplomat. He was the eldest son of Henry Newton of Highley and his wife Mary Hunt. He was educated at St. Mary Hall, where he took the degrees of M.A. and B.C.L., and Merton, where he graduated as a Doctor of Civil Law. During the reign of Queen Anne, he was sent to Italy as the Envoy Extraordinary to the Grand Duke of Tuscany and Republic of Genoa, remaining there for nearly seven years. During his stay, he commissioned a medal by the Italian artist Massimiliano Soldani Benzi. After his return, he was made a judge of the admiralty court and master of St Katharine's by the Tower. He was knighted in 1715, but died later the same year. Henry Newton had two daughters. Henry Newton Brown (1857 – April 30, 1884) was an American Old West gunman who played the roles of both lawman and outlaw during his life. Brown was raised in Cold Springs Township, in Phelps County, ten miles south of Rolla, Missouri. An orphan, he lived there with his uncle Jasper and aunt Aldamira Richardson until the age of seventeen, when he left home and headed west. He drifted through various cowboy jobs in Colorado and Texas, supposedly killing a man in a gunfight in the Texas Panhandle.
