Henry Lawson (1867–1922) was an Australian writer and poet. Henry Lawson
Henry Archibald Hertzberg Lawson (17 June 1867 – 2 September 1922) was an Australian writer and bush poet. Along with his contemporary Banjo Paterson, Lawson is among the best-known Australian poets and fiction writers of the colonial period and is often called Australia's "greatest short story writer". A vocal nationalist and republican, Lawson regularly contributed to '' The Bulletin'', and many of his works helped popularise the Australian vernacular in fiction. He wrote prolifically into the 1890s, after which his output declined, in part due to struggles with alcoholism and mental illness. At times destitute, he spent periods in Darlinghurst Gaol and psychiatric institutions. After he died in 1922 following a cerebral haemorrhage, Lawson became the first Australian writer to be granted a state funeral. He was the son of the poet, publisher and feminist Louisa Lawson. Henry Lawson (astronomer)
Henry Lawson (1774–1855) was an English astronomer, member of the Royal Astronomical Society, the Royal Society, and the British Meteorological Society, as well as an inventor, designer, science educator, and philanthropist. He observed an occultation of Saturn on 8 May 1832, Johann Gottfried Galle's first comet in December 1839 and January 1840, and recorded the falling stars of 12–13 November 1841. He claimed to have been related to Catherine Parr. Life He was the second son of Johnson Lawson, dean of Battle, Sussex, and Elizabeth, daughter of Henry Wright of Bath, Somerset, he was born at Greenwich on 23 March 1774. He was a pupil of Charles Burney, and then entered as an apprentice the optical establishment of his stepfather Edward Nairne of Cornhill. Henry Merrick Lawson
Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Merrick Lawson KCB (30 January 1859 – 2 November 1933) was a British Army General during World War I. Military career Educated at Cheltenham College and the Royal Military Academy Woolwich, Lawson was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1877. He took part in the Suakin Expedition and Nile Expedition in 1884 and served in the Egyptian Army during the Mahdist War in 1898. He served in the Second Boer War between 1899 and 1902, and following the end of the war in June that year stayed on as Deputy-Adjutant and Quartermaster-General to the Forces in South Africa. He became Director of Movements and Quarterings at the War Office in 1904. He was appointed Commander of 13th Infantry Brigade in Dublin in 1906 and Major-General in charge of Administration for Aldershot Command in 1907. Henry Lawson (cricketer)
Henry Wallace Lawson (1865 – 12 January 1941) was a New Zealand cricketer. He played first-class cricket for Auckland and Wellington between 1883 and 1898. An accurate right-arm medium-pace bowler, Lawson took 5 for 13 and 5 for 17 on his first-class debut for Wellington in Nelson in 1883–84, but still finished on the losing side to Nelson by 39 runs. When Nelson visited Wellington the next season he took 3 for 25 and 7 for 25, this time in the winning side. Earlier that season he had taken 5 for 68 and 6 for 70 in a drawn match against Auckland. He was less successful after he moved to Auckland in the early 1890s. Lawson married Margaret Short in 1888. They had one daughter. Geoff Lawson (cricketer)
Geoffrey Francis Lawson, (born 7 December 1957) is an Australian cricket coach and former cricketer and the former coach of the Pakistan cricket team. Nicknamed "Henry" after the Australian poet, Lawson was a fast bowler for New South Wales (NSW) and Australia. He first played for NSW in 1977–78, made his international debut in 1980–81. Lawson made three tours of England, including the 1989 Ashes-winning tour. For a few seasons in the early 1980s, Lawson was Australia's leading fast bowler, but his career suffered from poor luck with injury. Lawson received the Order of Australia in 1990 for services to cricket and in 2002 he was given the Australian Sports Medal. He is a qualified optometrist who graduated with a Bachelor of Optometry (BOptom) from the University of New South Wales.
