Henry John Clements
Colonel Henry John Clements (16 July 1781 – 12 January 1843) was an Ireland, Irish Conservative Party (UK), Conservative politician. He was born at Ashfield Lodge in County Cavan, the eldest son of the Rt Hon Henry Theophilus Clements and Catharine Beresford, daughter of John Beresford (statesman), John Beresford. He was appointed High Sheriff of Leitrim for 1804–05 and High Sheriff of Cavan, Sheriff of Cavan for 1814–15. He became a Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament for Leitrim (UK Parliament constituency), County Leitrim 1805–1818, and Cavan (UK Parliament constituency), County Cavan 1840–1843. He also held the rank of Colonel in the Leitrim militia from 1807 to death. He married on 21 December 1811 Louisa Stewart (23 November 1778 – 27 April 1850), daughter of James Stewart of Killymoon Castle, Killymoon, County Tyrone. Exeter
Exeter () is a city in Devon, South West England. It is situated on the River Exe, approximately northeast of Plymouth and southwest of Bristol. In Roman Britain, Exeter was established as the base of Legio II Augusta under the personal command of Vespasian. Exeter became a religious centre in the Middle Ages. Exeter Cathedral, founded in the mid 11th century, became Anglican in the 16th-century English Reformation. Exeter became an affluent centre for the wool trade, although by the First World War the city was in decline. After the Second World War, much of the city centre was rebuilt and is now a centre for education, business and tourism in Devon and Cornwall. It is home to two of the constituent campuses of the University of Exeter: Streatham and St Luke's. William Ormsby-Gore (1779–1860)
William Ormsby-Gore (14 March 1779 – 4 May 1860), known as William Gore until 1815, was a British Member of Parliament. Life Born into an Anglo-Irish family as William Gore, the eldest son of William Gore, M.P., of Woodford, County Leitrim, he was the great-great-grandson of William Gore, third and youngest son of Sir Arthur Gore, 1st Baronet, of Newtown, second son of Sir Paul Gore, 1st Baronet, of Magharabag, whose eldest son Paul was the grandfather of Arthur Gore, 1st Earl of Arran. He was educated at Eton College (1796), the Middle Temple (1796) and Merton College, Oxford, where he matriculated in 1797. In 1815 he married Mary Jane Ormsby, daughter and heiress of Owen Ormsby, and assumed by Royal licence the additional surname of Ormsby the same year. He joined the British Army and served as a lieutenant in the 1st Dragoon Guards in 1800, was promoted to captain in 1802, to major in 1802 and to brevet major in 1813. 1818 United Kingdom General Election
The 1818 United Kingdom general election saw the Whigs gain a few seats, but the Tories under the Earl of Liverpool retained a majority of around 90 seats. The Whigs were divided over their response to growing social unrest and the introduction of the Corn Laws. The result of the election was known on 4 August 1818. The fifth United Kingdom Parliament was dissolved on 10 June 1818. The new Parliament was summoned to meet on 4 August 1818, for a maximum seven-year term from that date. The maximum term could be and normally was curtailed, by the monarch dissolving the Parliament, before its term expired. The sixth Parliament lasted only about a year and a half, as King George III's death on 29 January 1820 triggered a dissolution of Parliament. Peter La Touche (died 1830)
Peter La Touche (c. 1775 – 11 February 1830) was a landowner and Irish politician. The La Touche family were Huguenots originally from France and settled in Ireland after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes which deprived the French Protestants of all religious and civil liberties, leading to largescale emigration. He was the son of David La Touche MP, of Marlay, County Dublin and educated at Harrow School (1786–1791) and Trinity College, Dublin He succeeded his uncle Peter Latouche, MP, to Bellevue House, County Wicklow in 1828. He became a Member of Parliament for County Leitrim 1802–1806. He married the Hon. Charlotte Maude, daughter of Cornwallis, 1st Viscount Hawarden, with whom he had nine sons and five daughters.
