Henry Hunt (police Officer)
Henry James Ellis Hunt (8 June 1918 – 27 January 2008) was a British police officer in the London Metropolitan Police. Hunt spent most of his early police service in East London and with Thames Division. After spending eight months as Commander (Traffic), he was promoted to Deputy Assistant Commissioner (Administration) in January 1969. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 1971 New Year Honours. He was appointed Assistant Commissioner "B" (Traffic) in 1972. In January 1974 he moved to be Assistant Commissioner "D" (Personnel and Training), a post he occupied until 1978. Metropolitan Police
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), formerly and still commonly known as the Metropolitan Police (and informally as the Met Police, the Met, Scotland Yard, or the Yard), is the territorial police force responsible for law enforcement and the prevention of crime in Greater London. John Gerrard (police Officer)
John Henry Gerrard (25 November 1920 – 2 June 2003) was a British police officer with the London Metropolitan Police. Gerrard was the son of Archie Reginald Gerrard and his wife Evelyn.Biography, '' Who Was Who'' He was educated at Cordwainers' Technical College and enlisted in the British Army in 1939, serving in Iceland from 1940 to 1942. On 20 March 1943, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Middlesex Regiment and served with the 1st Battalion until he was demobilised with the rank of captain in 1946. He was awarded the Military Cross (MC) as a lieutenant on 1 March 1945 for gallantry in North-West Europe. In 1946, he joined the Metropolitan Police as a constable. John Alderson (police Officer)
John Cottingham Alderson (28 May 1922 – 7 October 2011) was a senior British police officer and expert on police and penal affairs. Alderson was born in Barnsley, West Riding of Yorkshire, and educated at Barnsley Technical College. In 1938 he enlisted in the Highland Light Infantry as a boy soldier and reached the rank of Corporal before transferring to the Army Physical Training Corps in 1941. He served with the APTC in North Africa and Italy and left the Army in 1946 with the rank of Warrant Officer Class II. He then joined the West Riding Constabulary as a Constable, representing the force in boxing and rugby. He attended the National Police College in 1954 and was promoted Inspector in 1955 (after the statutory minimum nine years' service) and Superintendent in 1960. In 1956 he was a British Memorial Foundation Fellow in Australia and that year he was also called to the bar by the Middle Temple. Patrick Kavanagh (police Officer)
Patrick Bernard Kavanagh (18 March 1923 – 11 December 2013) was a senior British police officer. Kavanagh was educated at St. Aloysius' College, Glasgow. He served in the Rifle Brigade from 1941 to 1943 and the Parachute Regiment from 1943 to 1946, ending his service as a Lieutenant. In 1946, he joined the Manchester City Police as a Constable. He rose through the ranks to Superintendent, and in 1964 was appointed Assistant Chief Constable of Cardiff City Police. When it amalgamated to form South Wales Constabulary in 1969 he became ACC of the new force and was promoted Deputy Chief Constable in 1972. On 1 January 1974, he was appointed Assistant Commissioner "B" (Traffic) in the Metropolitan Police and was awarded the Queen's Police Medal (QPM) in the 1974 New Year Honours. Colin Woods
Sir Colin Philip Joseph Woods (20 April 1920 – 27 January 2001) was an English police officer in the London Metropolitan Police who was also the first Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police, from 1979 to 1982. Born in London, Woods was the son of a Metropolitan Police Sub-Divisional Inspector and was educated at Finchley Grammar School. He served in the King's Royal Rifle Corps and the Royal Ulster Rifles (into which he was commissioned in February 1944) throughout the Second World War, from 1939 to 1946, and then joined the Metropolitan Police as a Constable, rising through the ranks to Deputy Commander. In 1966, he was promoted Commander (Traffic) and in 1968 Deputy Assistant Commissioner (Management Services). The following year he was appointed Commandant of Bramshill Police College, and in 1970 returned to the Met as Assistant Commissioner "B" (Traffic). Thames Division
The Marine Policing Unit (MPU) is the waterborne policing unit of London's Metropolitan Police Service, forming part of the Met Taskforce (MO7) within Met Operations. Its 22 vessels are responsible for waterborne policing of the River Thames in Greater London and supporting the rest of the Metropolitan Police and to the City of London Police when dealing with incidents in or around any waterway in London. A specialist underwater and confined-spaces search team carries out searches throughout the Metropolitan Police District. The unit also has 24 officers who are trained in rope access techniques and trained to carry out searches and counter-demonstrator operations at height. In 1839 the Marine Police Force was merged into the Metropolitan Police as the Thames Division.
