Henry Hensche
Henry Hensche (February 25, 1899 – December 10, 1992) was an American painter and teacher. Early years Born Heinrich Hensche, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Henry came to the United States by way of Antwerp, Belgium. He is listed on the ship's manifest as age 11 years old when he arrived at Ellis Island aboard the British steamship S.S. Kroonland on March 3, 1909, with his sister Erna, and his father Fritz (later changed to Fred). (Hensche's birth year is often mentioned as 1898, 1899, or 1901, most likely 1898 - he did not make an effort to correct this. At times his city of birth is cited as Chicago, year of birth 1901 - again, Hensche made no effort to discourage that date or place of birth, perhaps due to anti-German sentiment during the World Wars). His mother is thought to have died before he was two, although this is not verified. She was either unable (deceased) or unwilling to travel to America with the family. Maryland Hall For The Creative Arts
The Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts is a multi-disciplinary arts center in Annapolis, Maryland which offers opportunities in the arts for individuals of all ages, skill levels and backgrounds. It was founded in 1979 to promote art appreciation and education in Maryland. Maryland Hall offers year-round ''arts classes'' for children, teens and adults. Chatham is a town in Columbia County, New York, United States. The population was 4,104 at the 2020 census, down from the 2010 census. The town has a village also called Chatham on its southern town line. The town is at the northern border of Columbia County. History The early settlers were Dutch, but later Quakers and New Englanders arrived. The town of Chatham was formed from the towns of Canaan and Kinderhook in 1795. Contradictory of its current condition or image, Chatham was an industrial center of multiple inter-state rail lines in the early 1900s, including the junction of the Boston and Albany Railroad for connections east and west, the Rutland Railroad for connections to Vermont to the north, and the New York Central's Harlem Line for connections to New York City. Betty Warren (artist)
Betty Warren Herzog (January 6, 1920 – November 8, 1993) was an American portrait artist. She was known for her bright colorist portraits and was one of the top paid female portraitists of the 20th century. Her last formal portrait was of Governor Hugh Carey for the State of New York in 1991. Biography Warren was born in New York City. She was the daughter of illustrator Jack A. Warren, the co-creator of Pecos Bill. At the age of 16, her father convinced her to become an artist like him. She studied art with her father, as well as Henry Hensche in Provincetown, and at the National Academy of Design. Hensche painted a portrait of Warren as a young woman. Warren was the youngest woman to be given a solo exhibit at a major United States Museum (Berkshire Museum 1940), when she was twenty years old.
