Henry Harris (Australian Cricketer)
Henry Vere Poulett-Harris (22 April 1865 – 7 March 1933) was an Australian cricket player, runner, footballer, gold prospector and gold mine owner. Vere Poulett-Harris played five first-class cricket matches for the Tasmania and Western Australia cricket teams between 1883 and 1899. One early news report described him as a "sterling cricketer and footballer" whilst another described him as a "sterling batsman and good field." Vere Poulett-Harris' father was Richard Deodatus Poulett-Harris, an educationalist, priest, the founder of the Masonic Lodge in Tasmania and the co-founder of the University of Tasmania. Amongst his other activities, Richard was passionate about cricket and, in 1882, was elected a trustee of the Southern Tasmanian Cricket Association. Furthermore, he encouraged the boys at the high school of which he was the headmaster to compete at sports. Cricket Tasmania (formerly the ''Tasmanian Cricket Association'') is the administrative body for cricket in Tasmania, Australia, and they are based at Bellerive Oval. Cricket Tasmania's primary purpose is to promote and develop the game of cricket in Tasmania, run junior and educational programmes and competitions and administer the Tasmanian Grade Cricket competitions. Cricket Tasmania is also responsible for the selection and administration of Tasmania's first class cricket team, the Tasmanian Tigers are part of the Association. Woodbridge is a semi-rural locality in the local government area (LGA) of Kingborough in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about south of the town of Kingston. The 2016 census has a population of 503 for the state suburb of Woodbridge. It is located south of the state capital, Hobart. History Woodbridge was gazetted as a locality in 1967. Originally named Peppermint Bay, it is located on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. First European settlement was in 1847. Peppermint Bay Post Office opened on 15 May 1854 and the town was renamed Woodbridge in 1881. At the , Woodbridge had a population of 271. Burtville, Western Australia
Burtville is an abandoned town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, located south east of Laverton. In 1897, Gold was discovered in the area by two prospectors, B. Frost and J. Trugurtha. The surveyor, J. Rowe, planned the town lots in accordance with the Goldfields Act in 1901. The settlement was initially known as Merolia which is the Indigenous Australian name for the district. The town was eventually named after the grandson of the first chief justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, Sir Archibald Burt. Archibald Edmund Burt JP was the chief mining warden of the Mount Margaret Goldfield. The town was gazetted as Merolia in 1902 but was regazetted to compliment Archibald Edmund Burt later the same year. The population of the town and district rose to approximately 400 by 1903 as a result of gold mining. Charters Towers is a rural town in the Charters Towers Region, Queensland, Australia. It is by road south-west from Townsville on the Flinders Highway. During the last quarter of the 19th century, the town boomed as the rich gold deposits under the city were developed.
