Henry H. Black
Henry H. Black (February 9, 1929 – August 24, 2012) was a United States Marine who served as the 7th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps from 1975 to 1977. Early life Henry Black was born in Imperial, Pennsylvania, on February 9, 1929. A high school graduate of Findley High School in 1947, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on April 12, 1948, and underwent recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. He was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division (United States), 2nd Marine Division at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina after completing boot camp and served with Company C, 1st Battalion 8th Marines, and later, with Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion 6th Marines. Imperial, Pennsylvania
Imperial is a census-designated place (CDP) in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States and part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The community was formerly part of the Imperial-Enlow CDP before splitting into two separate CDP's. The population was 2,541 at the 2010 census. The CDP is located in North Fayette and Findlay Townships, and geographically close to Pittsburgh International Airport. History Imperial was established as a mining town in about 1879 by the Imperial Coal Company. It sits along Montour Run on land that had been the farm of Robert Wilson. Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni
is a United States Marine Corps air station located in the Nishiki river delta, southeast of Iwakuni Station in the city of Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. History The Japanese government bought a large portion of what is today MCAS Iwakuni in 1938, with the view of establishing a naval air station. They commissioned the new base 8 July 1940. When World War II started, the Iwakuni air station was used as a training and defense base. The station housed 96 trainers and 150 Zero fighter planes on the airstrip. In September 1943, a branch of the Etajima Naval Academy was established here, with approximately 1,000 cadets undergoing training in the Basic, Junior and Senior Officer's schools at any one time.
