Henry Horatio Gill (October 1840 – 4 March 1914) was an Australian politician. Gill was born in New Norfolk in Van Diemen's Land in 1840. Tasmanian House Of Assembly
The House of Assembly, or Lower House, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Tasmania in Australia. The other is the Legislative Council or Upper House. It sits in Parliament House in the state capital, Hobart. The Assembly has 25 members, elected for a term of up to four years, with five members being elected in each of five electorates, called divisions. Each division has approximately the same number of electors. Voting for the House of Assembly is by a form of proportional representation using the single transferable vote (STV), known as the Hare-Clark electoral system. By having multiple members for each division, the voting intentions of the electors are more closely represented in the House of Assembly. Electoral District Of Kingborough
The electoral district of Kingborough was an electoral district of the Tasmanian House of Assembly. It was based in the region to the immediate south of Tasmania's capital city, Hobart, and included the Huon Valley towns of Cygnet, Huonville, Kettering, Margate and Sandfly. The seat was created as a single-member seat ahead of the Assembly's first election held in 1856. Richard Lucas (Australian Politician)
Richard James Lucas (1 November 1837 – 17 July 1916) was a politician in colonial Tasmania. Lucas was born at Kingston, Browns River, Tasmania and was educated at the school of the Rev. John Burrows of Brighton, Tasmania, and was admitted a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Tasmania, 2 August 1865. Lucas was elected member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly for Kingborough on 20 January 1883, and again in 1886. Lucas accepted office without portfolio in the James Wilson Agnew Ministry on 25 February 1887, but failed to secure re-election, and the Ministry resigned on 29 March 1887. Edward Crowther (politician)
Edward Lodewyk Crowther (3 October 1843 – 9 August 1931) was an Australian politician. He was born in Hobart. His father, William Crowther, was Premier of Tasmania from 1878 to 1879. In 1878 Edward Crowther was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly as the member for Queenborough. He was one of two members for Kingborough from 1886 to 1897 when the seat of Queenborough was incorporated into it; Queenborough was restored in 1897 and Crowther remained its member. With the introduction of proportional representation in 1909 he was elected to the seat of Denison as an Anti-Socialist Criticism of socialism (also known as anti-socialism) is any critique of socialist models of economic organization and their feasibility as well as the political and social implications of adopting such a system. New Norfolk, Tasmania
New Norfolk is a town on the River Derwent, in the south-east of Tasmania, Australia. At the 2011 census, New Norfolk had a population of 5,543. Situated north-west of Hobart on the Lyell Highway, New Norfolk is a modern Australian regional centre which retains evidence of its pioneer heritage. Van Diemen's Land
Van Diemen's Land was the colonial name of the island of Tasmania used by the British during the European exploration of Australia in the 19th century. A British settlement was established in Van Diemen's Land in 1803 before it became a separate colony in 1825. Its penal colonies became notorious destinations for the transportation of convicts due to the harsh environment, isolation and reputation for being inescapable. Macquarie Harbour and Port Arthur are among the most well-known penal settlements on the island. With the passing of the Australian Constitutions Act 1850, Van Diemen's Land (along with New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, and Western Australia) was granted responsible self-government with its own elected representative and parliament.
