Henry Feldwick
Henry Feldwick (1844 – 3 August 1908) was a 19th-century member of parliament from the Southland region of New Zealand. He represented the Invercargill electorate in Parliament from to 1879, from to 1884 and from to 1890. He was defeated in 1879 by James Bain, in 1884 by Joseph Hatch, and in 1890 by James Kelly. George Lumsden
George Lumsden (12 March 1815 – 11 February 1904) was a 19th-century New Zealand politician. Biography Lumsden was born in Fife, Scotland, in 1815. He learned the trade of watchmaker from his uncle at Pittenweem. Lumsden and his wife Christina (née Anderson, married 1842) emigrated to Geelong, Australia, in 1858 on the ''Ravenseraig''. He joined the gold rush in Ballarat, but returned to his watchmakers shop in Geelong. In 1861, they moved to Invercargill. He was Mayor of Invercargill in 1873–1874 and again in 1878–1879. A member of parliament (MP) is the representative in parliament of the people who live in their electoral district. In many countries with bicameral parliaments, this term refers only to members of the lower house since upper house members often have a different title. The terms congressman/congresswoman or deputy are equivalent terms used in other jurisdictions. New Zealand Legislative Council
The New Zealand Legislative Council was the upper house of the General Assembly of New Zealand between 1853 and 1951. An earlier arrangement of legislative councils for the colony and provinces existed from 1841 when New Zealand became a colony; it was reconstituted as the upper house of a bicameral legislature when New Zealand became self-governing in 1852, which came into effect in the following year. Unlike the elected lower house, the House of Representatives, the Legislative Council was wholly appointed by the governor-general. The New Zealand Constitution Act 1852 had authorised the appointment of a minimum of ten councillors. Beginning in the 1890s, the membership of the upper house became controlled by government of the day. As a result, the Legislative Council possessed little influence. James Whyte Kelly (1855 – 15 December 1938) was a 19th-century New Zealand politician, initially of the Liberal Party but later an Independent Liberal. Biography Kelly was born in 1855 at Carluke, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. He became an orphan aged 14. He learned the trade of a tailor, and married Elizabeth Millar, the daughter of James Millar of Motherwell in Lanarkshire. The couple emigrated in 1875 on the ''Aldergrove'' to New Zealand, landing in Port Chalmers in Otago. They later moved south to Invercargill.
