Henry Clinton, 2nd Earl Of Lincoln
Henry Clinton, 2nd Earl of Lincoln, KB (1539 – 29 September 1616) was an English peer, styled Baron Clinton from 1572 to 1585. Known for repeated accusations of extortion, abduction and arson, among other things, Henry was likely among the most feared and hated noblemen in England during his time as Earl of Lincoln. Life The eldest son of the 1st Earl of Lincoln, by second wife Ursula, daughter of William, 7th Baron Stourton, Henry Clinton was appointed a Knight of the Bath in 1553. He was returned to the House of Commons, representing the constituency of Lincolnshire in 1571, having been commissioned a Captain of Horse in the Royal Guards in 1569. He also served as Vice-Admiral of Lincolnshire and of Yorkshire. He inherited the earldom and barony from his father in 1585. Henry Clinton, 7th Earl Of Lincoln
Henry Clinton, 7th Earl of Lincoln, (16847 September 1728), was the elder surviving son of Francis Clinton, 6th Earl of Lincoln and his second wife Susan Penyston (died 1720), younger daughter of Rev Anthony Penyston (son of Sir Thomas Penyston). He succeeded as Earl of Lincoln upon his father's death in 1693, taking his seat in the House of Lords in 1708. As the brother-in-law of a prominent politician (Newcastle), he served in several offices of state during his lifetime. In 1719 he was one of the main subscribers in the Royal Academy of Music (1719), a corporation that produced baroque opera on stage. From 1715 to 1720, he served as Paymaster of the Forces. Three years later, he was appointed Lord Lieutenant of the Tower Hamlets and Constable of the Tower of London, a prestigious position. Henry Clinton (British Army Officer, Born 1730)
General Sir Henry Clinton, KB (16 April 1730 – 23 December 1795) was a British Army officer and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1772 and 1795. He is best known for his service as a general during the American War of Independence. First arriving in Boston in May 1775, from 1778 to 1782 he was the British Commander-in-Chief in North America. In addition to his military service, due to the influence of his cousin Henry Pelham-Clinton, 2nd Duke of Newcastle, he was a Member of Parliament for many years. Late in life he was named Governor of Gibraltar, but died before assuming the post. Henry Clinton (British Army Officer, Born 1771)
Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Clinton (9 March 1771 – 11 December 1829) was a British Army officer and a general officer during the Napoleonic Wars. He came from a family of soldiers. His elder brother was William Henry Clinton and his father was General Sir Henry Clinton the British Commander-in-Chief in North America during the American Revolutionary War, and his grandfather was Admiral of the Fleet George Clinton (1686–1761). Early military career Clinton first went to sea as a midshipman in 1786 in with Captain Erasmus Gower who was flag captain to Commodore John Elliot. Elliot was commander-in-chief and governor of Newfoundland from 1786 to 1788. Clinton suffered from severe seasickness and left the navy at the completion of three years with Captain Gower in Newfoundland. He received his officer's commission in 1787. Henry Fynes Clinton
Henry Fynes Clinton (14 January 1781 – 24 October 1852) was an English classical scholar, chronologist and Member of Parliament. Life He was born in Gamston, Nottinghamshire, the eldest son of Rev. Charles Fynes, prebendary of Westminster and perpetual curate of St. Margaret's, Westminster. For some generations his family bore the name of Fynes, but his father resumed the older family name of Clinton in 1821. His brother was the barrister and MP Clinton James Fynes Clinton. Henry was educated at Southwell Grammar School, Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford, where he studied classical literature and history. He entered Lincoln's Inn in 1808 to study law. From 1806 to 1826 he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Aldborough. He died at Welwyn, Herts, where he had purchased the residence and estate of the poet Edward Young.
