Leicester (UK Parliament Constituency)
Leicester was a parliamentary borough in Leicestershire, which elected two members of parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons from 1295 until 1918, when it was split into three single-member divisions. History Leicester sent burgesses to Parliament for the first time in 1295. Originally both Members were chosen by the whole 'commons' of the borough until at least 1407, when Thomas Denton and John Tonge were stated to have been chosen 'per totam communitatem tocius burgi'. At some unknown date before the middle of the 15th century, however, the 'commons', lost power within the borough and were restricted to the election of just one of the Members, the other being chosen by the mayor and 24 jurats (or aldermen). This situation was reversed by the middle of the sixteenth century. Henry Beaumont (died 1607)
Sir Henry Beaumont (c.1545 – 31 March 1607) was an English landowner and Member of Parliament. He was the son of Nicholas Beaumont of Coleorton Hall, Leicestershire and educated at St John’s College, Cambridge (1560) and Lincoln's Inn (1566). He succeeded his father in 1585 and was knighted in 1603. He was a Justice of the Peace for Leicestershire from 1584 and was appointed High Sheriff of Leicestershire for 1594-5. He was made Custos Rotulorum for the county from c.1605 until his death in 1607. He was elected MP for Leicestershire in 1588 (which convened in 1589) and again in a by-election in 1606. He married Elizabeth, the daughter of mercer John Loveys of London and heiress to her brother Humphrey. They had one son, Thomas, who was MP for Tamworth from 1604 to 1614 and was created Viscount Beaumont of Swords Viscount Beaumont of Swords, in the County of Dublin, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. Sir Henry Beaumont, 2nd Baronet
Sir Henry Beaumont, 2nd Baronet (2 April 1638 – 27 January 1689) was an English politician. He was the oldest son of Sir Thomas Beaumont, 1st Baronet and Elizabeth Trott, daughter of Sir Nicholas Trott, and was baptised at Stoughton Grange. Beaumont was educated at St John's College, Oxford and succeeded his father as baronet in 1676. He sat as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Leicester between 1679 and 1689. On 2 April 1662, he married Elizabeth Farmer, daughter of George Farmer, at St Andrew's Church, Holborn. They had seven daughters and fourteen sons (six having died as infants). Henry Frederick Beaumont
Henry Frederick Beaumont DL JP (10 March 1833, in Scarborough – 13 October 1913, in Ascot) was a British Liberal and Liberal Unionist politician. Beaumont was the son of Henry Ralph Beaumont, son of Thomas Beaumont. His mother was Katherine, daughter of Sir George Cayley, 6th Baronet, while Wentworth Beaumont, 1st Baron Allendale, was his first cousin. His father died when he was one year old and in 1845 his mother married as her second husband James Anlaby Legard. Beaumont was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. He sat as Member of Parliament for the West Riding of Yorkshire South from 1865 to 1874 and for Colne Valley from 1885 to 1892. He became a Liberal Unionist in 1886. He was also an Honorary Colonel in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the West Riding Division and a vice patron of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society. Henry Harcourt (1612 – 11 May 1673) was an English Jesuit. Biography Harcourt whose real name was Beaumont, third son of Sir Henry Beaumont, knt., of Stoughton, Leicestershire, by Elizabeth, daughter of Sir William Turpen, knight, of Knoptoft in that county, was born in 1612. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1630, and was made a spiritual coadjutor on 24 May 1643. Harry Beaumont (10 February 1888 – 22 December 1966) was an American film director, actor, and screenwriter. He worked for a variety of production companies including 20th Century Fox, Fox, Goldwyn Pictures Corporation, Goldwyn, Metro Pictures Corporation, Metro, Warner Brothers, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Career Beaumont's greatest successes were during the silent film era, when he directed films including John Barrymore's ''Beau Brummel (1924 film), Beau Brummel'' (1924) and the silent youth movie ''Our Dancing Daughters'' (1928), featuring Joan Crawford. He then directed MGM's first talkie musical, ''The Broadway Melody'' (1929).
