Henry Andrade
Henry Manuel Andrade (born April 17, 1962) is an American- Cape Verdean hurdler. One of the best hurdlers in the United States during the 1980s and early 1990s who, after years of frustration in the American Olympic Trials, achieved his opportunity to compete in the Olympics by obtaining dual citizenship through his parents' ancestry and representing the Cape Verde Islands in the 1996 Summer Olympics at the age of 34. Unfortunately, when his olympic moment was to occur, he showed up with a severe injury and was unable to make it out of the heats. Earlier in the season, he set the Cape Verde national record in the 110 hurdles 13.78 at the Modesto Relays. A graduate of Hiram W. Eric Dickerson
Eric Demetric Dickerson (born September 2, 1960) is an American former professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons. Dickerson played college football for the Mustangs of Southern Methodist University and was recognized as an All-American. He was selected in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft and played professionally for the Los Angeles Rams, Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Raiders, and Atlanta Falcons of the NFL. During his NFL career, he rushed for over 13,000 yards. He holds the NFL's single-season rushing record with 2,105 yards, set in 1984. Jordin Andrade
Jordin Jae Andrade (born May 5, 1992) is a track and field hurdler representing Cape Verde at the Olympics in 2016 and 2020 and World Championships in 2017. He specializes in the 400-meter hurdles. He was a silver medalist in the event at 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. High school career Andrade finished third in the 2010 Washington State High School Track and Field Championships in 1600 meter relay and fifth in 300 m hurdles in 39.02 s. Masters Track And Field
Masters athletics is a class of the sport of athletics for athletes of over 35 years of age. The events include track and field, road running and cross country running. Competitors are bracketed into five-year age groups (which promotes fair competition). For international events the first age group is 35 to 39. The death penalty is the popular term for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s power to ban a school from competing in a sport for at least one year. It is colloquially termed the ''"death penalty"'' as a nod to capital punishment, being the harshest penalty that an NCAA member school can receive. Southern Methodist University Football Scandal
The Southern Methodist University football scandal was an incident in which the Mustangs football program at Southern Methodist University (SMU) was investigated and punished for repeated violations of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations over a period of several years between the late 1970s and mid-1980s. The most serious violation was the maintenance of a slush fund used for "under the table" payments to players and their families to entice them to come to SMU to play. As an indirect result of SMU's repeated violations, the NCAA instituted a rule change to stiffen penalties for multiple rule violations over a certain period. Most notably the NCAA is now required to consider cancelling a school's season - a step known popularly as the "death penalty" - if a school's violations are severe enough.
