Henri Édouard De Copley
Baron Henri Édouard de Copley was interim Governor of Guadeloupe from 1764 to 1765. Early career Copley joined the army as an ensign on 22 August 1731, became a lieutenant in 1732 and a captain in 1733. He was made a captain of the grenadiers on 10 August 1751, and a battalion commander on 2 February 1753. He was promoted to lieutenant-colonel on 16 December 1744 and colonel on 1 February 1749. He was promoted to brigadier of infantry on 20 February 1761. He held the Grand Cross of Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel et de Saint-Lazare. Guadeloupe (1763–1765) In 1763 Baron Copley was sent to Guadeloupe as second in command. Henri Édouard, baron de Copley succeeded François-Charles de Bourlamaque as interim Governor of Guadeloupe on 24 June 1764. Bourlamaque had died in Guadeloupe on the night of 23–24 June 1764. François-Charles De Bourlamaque
François-Charles de Bourlamaque (the surname can also be seen as Burlamaqui) (1716 – 1764) was a French military leader and Governor of Guadeloupe from 1763. Biography His father Francesco Burlamacchi was born in Lucca, Tuscany. He began as military engineer, major-captain, infantry colonel, infantry commandant, commandant, general brigadier, major-general, commander of Saint-Louis, honorary order of Malta, and Governor of Guadeloupe. After entering the French army, Bourlamaque was promoted to the rank of Colonel in 1756. He was sent to Canada in 1756 as third-in-command of the regular troops and served with distinction throughout the subsequent campaign in Canada. In the Battle of Carillon in 1758 he commanded the French left and in 1759 led the French forces at Ticonderoga and was made a Brigadier-General. Pierre Gédéon De Nolivos
Pierre Gédéon, Comte de Nolivos (born 25 November 1715) was a French soldier who served as Governor of Guadeloupe from 1765–1768, then as Governor of Saint-Domingue from 1769–1772. Early years Pierre Gédéon René de Nolivos was born on 25 November 1715 in Léogâne in the French colony of Saint-Domingue (now Haiti). He was baptized on 17 September 1716 in Léogâne. His father, also called Pierre Gédéon, was born in Sauveterre-de-Béarn, son of a judge in the Parliament of Navarre, and took part in a number of privateering expeditions before being sent to Saint-Domingue in 1707. His mother was Renée Giet (1683–1756). His father arrived in Saint Domingue in 1707 as captain of a free company. He was appointed major at Petit-Goâve on 4 December 1717, and knight of the Order of Saint Louis on 23 December 1721. He died in Léogane on 14 August 1732. The Royal Military and Hospitaller Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem united (French language, French: ''Ordre royal militaire et hospitalier de Notre-Dame du Mont-Carmel et de Saint-Lazare de Jérusalem réuni'') was a chivalric order instituted in 1608 by personal union of the medieval Order of Saint Lazarus in France and the new Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel of King Henry IV of France. The union of the two orders was recognised by a bull of Cardinal Louis, Duke of Vendôme, Louis de Bourbon, papal legate in France, dated 5 June 1668.
