Henri 4 (film)
''Henri 4'' is a 2010 drama film directed by Jo Baier. It is a German-French-Austrian-Spanish co-production. Plot France in 1563. Calvinist Protestantism has arrived in France. But the Catholic reaction is not long in coming and the small but steadily growing Protestant population is suppressed in French society. However, the Huguenots, particularly in the south of France and in the small Kingdom of Navarre near Spain, resisted. Catherine de' Medici, the actual ruler of France, wants to counter this. Her two sons, Charles IX and Duke of Anjou show weakness in this fight and Henry, the young prince of Navarre, vital strength. Catherine de' Medici has to give in and makes Henry an offer of peace, which he, tired of fighting, accepts. This peace also means that Margot, the daughter of the Medicis, married in Paris with Henry. Jo Baier (born 13 February 1949) is a German film director and writer. He directed more than twenty films since 1982 and is known for '' Operation Valkyrie'' (2004), '' Henri 4'' (2010) and ' (2006). He is married to Gertrud Baier. Early life and education Baier was born in Munich. He studied drama, German and English at the Ludwig Maximilians University. He graduated with a doctorate in 1980. Catherine De Bourbon
Catherine de Bourbon (7 February 1559 – 13 February 1604) was a Navarrese regent princess. She was the daughter of Queen Joan III and King Anthony of Navarre. She ruled the principality of Béarn in the name of her brother, King Henry III of Navarre, from 1576 until 1596. Early life Catherine was born on 7 February 1559 to Jeanne d'Albret, Queen of Navarre and her co-ruler, Antoine de Bourbon. She was named after her godmother, the French queen Catherine de' Medici. Jeanne converted to Calvinism a year after Catherine's birth and declared it the official religion of the Kingdom of Navarre. Antoine, conversely, remained a Catholic and turned against his wife and threatened to divorce her. He died fighting for the Catholic cause on 17 November 1562.
