Hennessy Capital
Jas Hennessy & Co., commonly known simply as Hennessy (), is a French producer of cognac, which has its headquarters in Cognac, France. It is one of the "big four" cognac houses, along with Martell, Courvoisier, and Rémy Martin, who together make around 85% of the world's cognac. Hennessy sells approximately 70 million bottles of its cognacs per year, making it the world's largest cognac producer, and in 2017 its sales represented around 60% of the US cognac market. As well as distilling cognac ''eaux-de-vie'' itself, the company also acts as a ''negociant''. The brand is owned by Moët Hennessy, which is in turn owned by LVMH (66%) and Diageo (34%), who act as a non-controlling shareholder. Richard Hennessy
Richard Hennessy ( ga, Ristéard Ó h-Aonghusa; 1724 — 8 October 1800) was an Irish military officer and businessman, best known for founding the Hennessy cognac dynasty, which is today a luxury brand and one of the most prominent in the world. Hennessy was from County Cork, Ireland, and, due to his Jacobite political tendencies, went into exile in France, eventually serving in the French Army. Kilian Hennessy
Kilian Hennessy (; 19 February 1907 – 1 October 2010) was a French business magnate of Irish extraction, and co-patriarch, with Maurice his first cousin, of the Hennessy cognac company. Kilian Hennessy, the son of Jean Hennessy and Marguerite de Mun, was a direct, fifth generation descendant of Richard Hennessy, who founded Hennessy in 1765. He became the CEO of Hennessy during the 1970s and spearheaded the 1971 merger with the Moët et Chandon champagne company. The merger resulted in the creation of Moët Hennessy, which in turn became a part of the new LVMH in 1987, becoming Moët-Hennessy • Louis Vuitton. Hennessy remained a member of the luxury group's advisory board until his death in 2010. The Great French Wine Blight was a severe blight of the mid-19th century that destroyed many of the vineyards in France and laid waste to the wine industry.
