Kevin Henkes
Kevin Henkes (born November 27, 1960) is an American writer and illustrator of children's books. As an illustrator he won the Caldecott Medal for ''Kitten's First Full Moon'' (2004). Two of his books were Newbery Medal Honor Books, ''Olive's Ocean'' in 2004 and '' The Year of Billy Miller'' in 2014. His picture book ''Waiting'' was named both a 2016 Caldecott Honor Book and a Geisel Honor Book. It was only the second time any author has won that combination of awards. Career Kevin Henkes (pronounced HANK-us) thought he would be an artist until his junior year of high school when one of his teachers encouraged him in his writing efforts. He discovered that children's books combined both his literary and artistic interests. Henkes writes and illustrates children's picture books, many of which feature mice as their main characters. Henkes Islands
The Henkes Islands are a group of small islands and rocks in extent, lying southwest of Avian Island, close off the southern extremity of Adelaide Island, Antarctica. The islands were discovered by the French Antarctic Expedition, 1908–10, under Jean-Baptiste Charcot, and named by him for one of the Dutch directors of the Magellan Whaling Company at Punta Arenas. Charcot applied the name to the scattered rocks and islands between Cape Adriasola and Cape Alexandra, and the name was restricted to the group described by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UKAPC) following definitive mapping by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) in 1961 and the British Royal Navy Hydrographic Survey (BRNHS) in 1963. All of the islands in the group were named by UKAPC. Worth Reef is an arc of rocks forming the northernmost part of the Henkes Islands. They were named for Acting Corporal David A. Jacques-Yves Henckes
Jacques-Yves Henckes (born 12 October 1945, in Luxembourg City) is a Luxembourgish jurist. Henckes first gained office in 1975, when he was elected to the communal council of Luxembourg City representing the Democratic Party (DP). He first entered the Chamber of Deputies in 1984, but lost his seat in the election held that year. He re-entered the Chamber the following year, and remained until the 1989 election. In 1993, he joined the Action Committee for Democracy and Pensions Justice (now the ADR), but lost his seat on Luxembourg City's communal council.
