Henk Baars
Henk Baars (born 3 August 1960 in Diessen) is a former professional Dutch cyclo-cross cyclist who was among the best Dutch cyclo-cross cyclists in the late 1980s to mid 1990s. Baars’ greatest win was when he became World Champion on a Spanish course in Guecho in 1990. His win was unexpected at the time as Adri van der Poel Adrie van der Poel (born 17 June 1959 in Bergen op Zoom) is a retired Dutch cyclist. Van der Poel was a professional from 1981 to 2000. His biggest wins included six classics, two stages of the Tour de France and the World Cyclo-Cross Championsh ... was the big favourite for the race. Other wins in his career included the Dutch national Mountainbike title in 1989 and Dutch national cyclo-cross champion in 1993. Baars now runs a sports and cycle business in Diessen. Diessen
Diessen is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Hilvarenbeek. History The village was first mentioned in 380 as Deusone, and relates to the Dieze River. The etymology is unclear. Diessen developed in the Early Middle Ages around the Reusel stream. The St Willibrordus church with a choir from the early-15th century and a nave from around 1450. The tower was probably built in 1527. The church was restored between 1970 and 1773, and some of the 19th century modifications have been undone. Diessen was home to 1,003 people in 1840. Diessen was a separate municipality until 1997, when it was merged with Hilvarenbeek. Adri Van Der Poel
Adrie van der Poel (born 17 June 1959 in Bergen op Zoom) is a retired Dutch cyclist. Van der Poel was a professional from 1981 to 2000. His biggest wins included six classics, two stages of the Tour de France and the World Cyclo-Cross Championships in 1996. He also obtained the second place and silver medal in the World Road Championships in 1983 behind Greg LeMond and five second places in the World Cyclo-Cross championships. The Grand Prix Adrie van der Poel is named after him. Career Van der Poel began his career on the road and during his first season as a professional he obtained second place in Paris–Nice behind Stephen Roche and second place in the La Flèche Wallonne. In the Tour de France, he won two stages; his stage win in 1988 set the record for fastest stage (since then only surpassed by three cyclists).
