Hendon is a rural town and locality in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Hendon had a population of 200 people. Geography Hendon is situated north of Warwick and about southwest of Brisbane. History The town of Hendon developed after the opening of the Southern railway line from Gowrie Junction (near Toowoomba) to Hendon railway station on 11 March 1869. The Southern line was extended to Millhill on 9 January 1871, and across the Condamine River to Cherry Gully on 8 December 1880, to Stanthorpe by 3 May 1881, reaching New South Wales border at Wallangarra on 14 February 1887. The town takes its name from the Hendon railway station, which in turn was originally named ''Allora'' in 1869, but was changed to ''Hendon'' in mid-1870s as the station was . from the town of Allora. Warwick State High School
Warwick State High School is a heritage-listed state high school at Palmerin Street, Warwick, Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Thomas Pye and Block A was built from 1914 to 1915. It is also known as Warwick Technical College and Warwick Intermediate School. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 28 June 2018. History Warwick State High School opened on this site in 1914 as the Warwick Technical College and High School, accommodated in new buildings; having relocated operations from an earlier site in Guy Street. It grew to include Queensland's first intermediate school in 1929, accommodated in a new building in 1932, and developed further to cater for increased high school enrolments in the 1950s and 1960s in new buildings. Clifton is a rural town and locality in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Clifton had a population of 1,456 people. Geography Clifton is a town in the Darling Downs. The town is situated just west of the New England Highway, about south of Toowoomba and west of Brisbane. The Shire of Warwick was a local government area in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia. The administrative centre and major town of the shire was the town of Warwick. History On 19 March 1992, the Electoral and Administrative Review Commission, created two years earlier, produced its report ''External Boundaries of Local Authorities'', and recommended that local government boundaries in the Warwick area be rationalised into three new local government areas. That recommendation was not implemented, but the City of Warwick was merged with the Shires of Allora, Glengallan and Rosenthal to form the new Shire of Warwick. Goomburra Railway Line
The Goomburra railway line was a branch railway in the Southern Downs region of Queensland, Australia. History Construction of the Southern railway line from Toowoomba to Warwick brought it as far as Dalrymple Creek near Allora in 1869. At that time, Allora was the largest settlement in the region but the line ran about five kilometres to its west and the then terminus was renamed Hendon in the 1870s. A line from Hendon to Allora was surveyed in 1884 but the local residents pushed for connection to a proposed direct link between Brisbane and Warwick. The latter link did not materialise but a line running the short distance from Hendon to Allora was constructed and opened on 21 April 1897. Up to four trains daily connected via Kates with the main line services at Hendon. After development of land to the east of Allora, moves were afoot to extend the line about 20 kilometres to Goomburra. Wallangarra Railway Station
Wallangarra railway station is a heritage-listed railway station at Woodlawn Street, Wallangarra, Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1877 along the state border of Queensland and New South Wales It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 28 March 2003. Wallangarra railway station was on the only railway route between Sydney and Brisbane and had to handle the break-of-gauge where Queensland Railways' Southern line met the New South Wales Government Railways' Main Northern line. Wallangarra was the terminating point for the ''Sydney Mail'', with passengers transferring to the ''Brisbane Limited'' for the remainder of the journey to Sydney.
