Helvi Juvonen (5 November 1919, Iisalmi, Northern Savonia – 1 October 1959) was a Finnish poet and recipient of the Eino Leino Prize The Eino Leino Prize is an annual prize award to top writers in Finland since 1956, with particular emphasis on poets. Helvi Hämäläinen
Helvi Hämäläinen (16 June 1907 – 17 January 1998) was a Finnish writer who published dozens of books of prose and poetry during her six decade writing career. Biography Helvi Heleena Hämäläinen was born in Hamina, 16 June 1907. She moved to Helsinki with her parents Aaro and Iida Hämäläinen while still a pre-schooler. Hämäläinen's first published novel, ''Hyväntekijä'' (The Benefactor) appeared in 1930, but her breakthrough came five years later with her feminist depiction of the working-class, ''Katuojan vettä'' (Water in a Gutter). Hämäläinen's best-known book, ''Säädyllinen murhenäytelmä'' (A Decent Tragedy), appeared in 1941. A roman à clef, it caused a great sensation: readers were able to identify several notable cultural personalities of the day, Hämäläinen's former lover Olavi Paavolainen among them. Helvi Leiviskä
Helvi Lemmikki Leiviskä (25 May 1902 — 12 August 1982) was a Finnish composer, writer, music educator and librarian at the Sibelius Academy. Life Helvi Leiviskä was born in 1902 in Helsinki, Finland, and in 1927 graduated in composition from the Helsinki Music Institute (Sibelius Academy) where she studied with Erkki Melartin. She continued her studies in Vienna, and then returned to Finland where she studied with Leevi Madetoja. She began work as a composer with a debut in 1935 and also worked as a music teacher privately and in public schools from 1922 to 1938. In 1933 she took a position as librarian at the Sibelius Academy. After World War II, Leiviskä furthered her studies with Leo Funtek and wrote reviews for periodicals including '' Ilta-Sanomat'' as well as articles for several publications. Helvi Mustonen
Helvi Mustonen (born 1 July 1947 in Kemi), is a Finnish artist and a painter. Mustonen's works of art are mainly paintings, but she also creates sculptures in bronze. Helvi Mustonen's art has typically very strong and emotional themes and strong colours. The paintings are usually quite dark and symbolistic. Mustonen was born in Kemi. She started painting and sculpting in Oulu during the early 1970s and continued in Hyvinkää where she moved in the early 1980s. Helvi Nuorgam-Poutasuo (October 15, 1943 – July 16, 2017) was a Sámi teacher, translator, and newspaper editor as well as a politician and a Sámi cultural influencer. She was the first lecturer in Northern Sámi at the University of Oulu. Biography Helvi Nuorgam was born in Utsjoki, Finland on October 15, 1943. Her parents were Niillas-Jon Niillas ( fi, Niiles Nuorgam and Ápparan-Mággá ( fi, Magga Nuorgam, née Helander). Her father's family was from Utsjoki and Inari, while her mother's family was from Utsjoki. Poutasuo attended schools in Ivalo and Mäntsälä. In 1962, she was selected as that year's High School Girl by ''Uusi Suomi''. She studied Finno-Ugric languages, including Northern Sámi, at the University of Helsinki. Helvi Linnea Aleksandra Sipilä (née Maukola; 5 May 1915 – 15 May 2009) was a Finnish diplomat, lawyer and politician. She was known as a promoter of women's rights, and was the first-ever female Assistant-Secretary-General of the United Nations. When Sipilä was appointed Assistant-Secretary-General in 1972, 97 per cent of United Nations senior management (D1 and above) was male. Sipilä also held a number of leadership positions in international civic organizations, including in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Zonta International and the International Council of Women.
