Helvetia, Oregon
Helvetia is a small unincorporated community in Washington County, Oregon. It is located in the Tualatin Valley along U.S. Route 26, 15 minutes west of Portland. It was named by Swiss immigrants to Oregon in the 19th century. Notable features are the church, cemetery, the Rice Mineral Museum, Helvetia Vineyards and Winery, which is co-owned by former U.S. Congresswoman Elizabeth Furse, Roloff Farms, and the Helvetia Tavern. The reality television series ''Little People, Big World'' is set on Roloff Farms in Helvetia, making the location a popular tourist attraction. The Helvetia area is only a few miles from both the Intel and Nike headquarters campuses. It consists of heritage farms and million dollar estate properties. Holcomb Creek Trestle
The Holcomb Creek Trestle, also known as the Dick Road Trestle, is a wooden railroad trestle bridge in Washington County, Oregon, United States, on Dick Road near the unincorporated community of Helvetia. Spanning , it is thought to be the longest wooden railroad trestle still in use in the United States, as well as the largest trestle in Oregon. The trestle was completed in around 1911 for the United Railways, a now-defunct railway which ran from Portland to Wilkesboro. It was rebuilt in 1947. A connection to the Oregon Electric Railway was later added. It was used by Burlington Northern Railroad (which merged into BNSF Railway in 1995) until the mid-1990s, and was known by that company as "Bridge 16.7". Tualatin Valley Fire And Rescue
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) is a special-purpose government fire fighting and emergency services district in the Portland metropolitan area of Oregon. Established in 1989 with a merger between Washington County Fire District 1 and the Tualatin Rural Fire Protection District, it primarily provides fire and emergency medical services in eastern Washington County, but also provides services in neighboring Multnomah, Clackamas, and Yamhill counties. It serves unincorporated areas along with the cities of Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin, West Linn, Wilsonville, and Sherwood, among others. ''Little People, Big World'' is an American reality television series that premiered on March 4, 2006, and airs on TLC (TV network), TLC. The series chronicles the lives of the six-member Roloff family farm near Portland, Oregon. Many of the episodes focus on the parents, Matt and Amy, and one of their children, Zach, who has dwarfism. On August 26, 2010, TLC announced that the sixth season would be the last for the show. However, the show was never canceled and remains on the air to this day. Elizabeth Furse (October 13, 1936 – April 18, 2021) was a Kenya Colony-born American small business owner and former faculty member of Portland State University. She was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1993 to 1999, representing Oregon's 1st congressional district. The Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals is a non-profit museum in Hillsboro, Oregon, United States. Located just north of the Sunset Highway on the northern edge of Hillsboro, the earth science museum is in the Portland metropolitan area. Opened in 1997, the museum's collections date to the 1930s with the museum housed in a home built to display the rock and mineral collections of the museum founders. The ranch-style home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the first of its kind listed in Oregon. In 2015 the museum became a Smithsonian Affiliate museum. The museum sits on 23 wooded acres (9.3 ha), with the main building containing of space. Tualatin Valley
The Tualatin Valley is a farming and suburban region southwest of Portland, Oregon in the United States. The valley is formed by the meandering Tualatin River, a tributary of the Willamette River at the northwest corner of the Willamette Valley, east of the Northern Oregon Coast Range. Most of the valley is located within Washington County, separated from Portland by the Tualatin Mountains.
