Helmuth Theodor Bossert (September 11, 1889 – February 5, 1961) was a German history of art, art historian, philology, philologist and archaeology, archaeologist. He is best-known for his excavations of the Hittite fortress city at Karatepe, Turkey, and the discovery of bilingual inscriptions, which enabled the translation of Hittite hieroglyphs. Early life Bossert was born in Landau, German Empire, on September 11, 1889. He was educated in history of art, history, archaeology and German studies at the universities of Heidelberg University, Heidelberg, University of Strasbourg, Strasbourg, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Munich and University of Freiburg, Freiburg im Breisgau. Helmuth Schwenn
Helmuth Schwenn (27 January 1913 – 16 July 1983) was a German water polo player who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. Career Schwenningen won an Olympic silver medal in water polo in the Olympics in 1936 in Berlin. He was part of the German team that finished second in water polo tournament. There were 16 nations that fielded teams. Germany's performance in the final round, 2-2 against Hungary, 4-1 against Belgium and 8-1 over France . Hungary and Germany both had five points but Hungary won due to better target view (10/2 = 5) against Germany (14/4 = 3.5). The other players on the German team was Fritz Gunst, Josef Hauser, Alfred Kienzle, Paul Klingenburg, Heinrich Krug, Hans Schneider, Hans Schulze, Gustav Schürger and Fritz Stolze. ''Galactic Patrol'' is a science fiction novel by American author E. E. Smith. The novel was originally serialized in the magazine ''Astounding'' in 1937. The stories in this volume were the first parts written of the original ''Lensman'' saga. It was later published in book form in 1950 by Fantasy Press. HMS ''Helmuth'' was a German tug that the Royal Navy captured at the beginning of World War I and armed as a picket boat. She served in the East African campaign including the battles of Zanzibar and Tanga, she survived a German attack at Dar es Salaam, and took part in blockading in the Rujifi Delta. In 1916 she took part in an amphibious assault on the coastal town of Bagamoyo. Career At the beginning of World War I, the German- registered ''Helmuth'' was in Zanzibar Harbour. Several prominent Germans in Zanzibar planned to sail on her to German East Africa to escape internment, but her engines were in disrepair and the British seized her before the Germans could use her. Justus Christian Henry Helmuth (16 May 1745 in Helmstedt, Brunswick, Germany – 5 February 1825 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States) was a German-American Lutheran clergyman. Biography His father died when the son was a mere boy, but a nobleman, Gotthilf August Francke, sent him to the orphan house in Halle, and afterward to the University of Halle, where he received a thorough education in the classics and theology. He was ordained to the ministry at Wernigerode in 1769, and in the same year went to the United States in response to an urgent call from Lutheran congregations in Pennsylvania. On his arrival in the U.S. in 1769, he was at once elected pastor of the congregation at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for 10 years. Helmuth Otto Ludwig Weidling (2 November 1891 – 17 November 1955) was a German general during World War II. He was the last commander of the Berlin Defence Area during the Battle of Berlin, and led the defence of the city against Soviet forces, finally surrendering just before the end of World War II in Europe. Military career Born in Halberstadt in 1891, Weidling entered the military in 1911 and served as a lieutenant in the First World War. He remained in the reduced army of the Weimar Republic after the war. Hellmuth Stieff (6 June 1901 – 8 August 1944) was a German general and a member of the OKH (German Army Headquarters) during World War II. He took part in attempts by the German resistance to assassinate Adolf Hitler on 7 and 20 July 1944. Career Stieff was born in Deutsch Eylau (now Iława, Poland) in the province of West Prussia.
