Helmar Lewis
Helmar Lewis (February 7, 1900 – March 6, 1999) was an American politician and lawyer. Born in McFarland, Wisconsin, Lewis was raised on a farm. He served in the United States Army during World War I. He received his bachelor's degree and law degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He served as District Attorney of Grant County, Wisconsin, city attorney and mayor of Boscobel, Wisconsin. He served in the Wisconsin Senate from 1941 to 1944 as a Republican Party (United States), Republican, and resigned to work in the Office of Price Administration in June 1944. He then worked in the Wisconsin Public Service Commission as a lawyer. He died in Beloit, Wisconsin. McFarland, Wisconsin
The Village of McFarland is located on Lake Waubesa adjacent to the southeast side of the City of Madison in Dane County. The population was 8,991 at the 2020 United States Census. McFarland has approximately 43.50 road miles, is slightly less than 5 square miles in total land area, and is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. U.S. Route 51 passes through McFarland and serves as the main connection point between the cities of Madison and Stoughton. Its ZIP code is 53558. It is the tenth-most populous city in Dane County after Madison. History Several burial mounds from the Woodland period are known as the Lewis Mound Group in the village's Indian Mound Park. McFarland was founded in 1856 by William H. McFarland. Wisconsin Senate
The Wisconsin Senate is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Together with the larger Wisconsin State Assembly they constitute the legislative branch of the state of Wisconsin. The powers of the Wisconsin Senate are modeled after those of the U.S. Senate. The Wisconsin Constitution ties the size of the State Senate to that of the Assembly, by limiting its size to no less than 1/4, nor more than 1/3, of the size of the Assembly. Currently, Wisconsin is divided into 33 Senate Districts (1/3 of the current Assembly membership of 99) apportioned throughout the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 33 senators.
